This is an idea I've had for a while, a mage that is good at adapting his body to most situations and conditions. Still needs a lot of work.

Spellcasting: As Beguiler and Warmage

Weapon and armor Proficiencies: ???

Disguise Self (Su): An Adaptive Mage can use Disguise Self (DC 11 + charisma modifier) as the spell (caster level equal to Adaptive Mage level), and can evoke or end the effect as a free action.

Minor Change Shape (Su): Adaptive Mages have the supernatural ability to alter their appearance as though using a disguise self spell that affects their bodies but not their possessions. This ability is not an illusory effect, but a minor physical alteration of an Adaptive Mage's facial features, skin color and texture, and size, within the limits described for the spell. An Adaptive Mage can use this ability at will, and the alteration lasts until she changes shape again. An Adaptive Mage reverts to her natural form when killed. A true seeing spell reveals her natural form. When using this ability to create a disguise, an Adaptive Mage receives a +10 circumstance bonus on Disguise checks. This bonus overlaps, does not stack with the bonus from the Disguise Self ability. Using this ability is a full-round action.

Change Shape (Su): An Adaptive Mage can assume the shape of any Small or Medium humanoid as a standard action. In humanoid form, the Adaptive Mage loses its natural attacks, if any. An Adaptive Mage can remain in its humanoid form until it chooses to assume a new one. A change in form cannot be dispelled, but an Adaptive Mage reverts to its natural form when killed. A true seeing spell or ability reveals its natural form. This ability is usable a number of times per day equal to three plus the Adaptive Mage’s charisma modifier, minimum once per day. When using this ability to create a disguise, an Adaptive Mage receives a +10 circumstance bonus on Disguise checks. This bonus overlaps, does not stack with the bonus from the Disguise Self or Minor Change Shape ability.

Alternate Form (Su): An Adaptive Mage can assume the form of any Humanoid, Monstrous Humanoid or Giant as a standard action. This ability functions as a polymorph spell (caster level equal to one half Adaptive Mage level), except that an Adaptive Mage does not regain hit points for changing form, and any individual Adaptive Mage can assume only forms no larger than one size category larger than themselves or smaller. This ability is usable once per day. When using this ability to create a disguise, an Adaptive Mage receives a +10 circumstance bonus on Disguise checks. This bonus overlaps, does not stack with the bonus from the Disguise Self, Minor Change Shape or Change Shape abilities.

Advanced Learning: At 5th level, you can add a new spell to your list, representing the result study and experimentation. The spell must be a sor/wiz spell of the transmutation school and of a level no higher than that of the highest-level spell you already know. Once a new spell is selected, it is forever added to your spell list and can be cast just like any other spell on your list.
You gain another spell at 10th, 15th and 20th level.

It looks decent for the most part. However, it really shouldn't have access to shapechange and timestop, which are arguably two of three strongest 9th-level spells (the other being gate). One of the biggest balancing factors of this class is that they don't have the spellcasting power of a wizard and these spells clearly go against that trend.
