Hello - I am messing around in my head with new class possibilities and was wondering about the following - lemme know what you think:

Going up to level 9 in Hexblade (or whatever for 3rd level arcane spells) then switching over to Eldritch Knight.

What I need to know is how will going up EK going to influence my spell selection? Will I gain Arcane spells faster than HB?

What would happen if I did Hexblade for 9 levels, 1 level Wizard, then 10 levels EK - and assuming I had a 20 intelligence by then - what level spells could I cast? I'm looking for the optimal way to do this. Maybe I'm confused on adding multiple casting classes together for max spell level - if someone could enlighten me, thanks!

Sorry if this has been kicked around before- I'm having trouble finding the search tools...

No, you don't. You will gain caster levels as if you gained more levels in Hexblade. So you will gain arcane spells slower, because you lose a caster level with the first level of EK. You also lose out on the other HB abilities.

Depends on which spellcasting class you assign your EK caster levels to. You will either cast as a HB18/Wiz1, or a HB9/Wiz10 at level 20. Or something in between.

You keep track of your spellcasting classes separately - they do NOT stack. The EK lets you add caster levels to one of your existing arcane spellcasting classes, that is all. You may wish to consider other martial prestige classes that require arcane spellcasting as prerequisites such as the arcane archer or the dragon disciple instead.
