So, I keep hearing people talk about adjusting the sorcerer, and I've gotten tired of it.
Here are five minor changes to make the sorcerer a reasonable class again.

1. Sorcerers may aquire a familiar through an act of will, requiring a DC 20 concentration check and four hours of meditation, but no gold.

2. Eschew Materials as a bonus feat at first level.

3. At about eighth level or so, give the sorcerer the ability to directly control and see through the eyes of thier familiar. They must concentrate on this ability like maintaining a spell and can take no other actions while using it.

4. Ignore Material Components at level 18, requirements need not be met.

5. Enforce the rules on spellbook upkeep and matintaining costs!!!

Remove the Sorcerer and turn teh wizard into a hybreed of the two. memorize spells to create a template of spells castable then cast spontainusly from there.

Almost everyone in my playing circle thinks Sorcs are rather broken. Practically no one ever plays a Wizard. Can't really see that Sorcs needing fixing in the first place.

1- Normal spellcasting progression instead of delayed.
2- Remove the dragonblooded prerequisite to Accelerate Metamagic.
3- Make knowstones core
4- UMD as a class skill

I was actually thinking of doing the same thing. I asked my good friend, who is also a player in my group of regulars. Now mind you, he is a powergamer. He said that the sorcerer has the benifit of casting spells at will while the wizard has to study and said that the sorcerer should stay the way it is.. I was totally shocked at this, coming from a powergamer/munchkin. So i think that classes should be left alone, they were made a certain way for a reason. Just personal preferance though, do what you wish.

Otherwise, it doesn't look half bad. This alternate sorcerer build looks pretty good and interesting. Try it out, if it dont work, trash it and start again.

That's not the list from PHB2. From what I've read, it just makes it so that they don't increase the casting time when they use metamagic feats. That's it. From everything I've seen, I advocate 1 feat per 5 levels like the wizard and free Eshew Materials. The only other change that I do is that, when a sorceror levels, he does NOT need to choose his new spells. He can leave them as blanks until he needs them. Sorcerors are supposed to naturally develop talent over time. There spells come about as they need them. That's why my variant does. Sorceror hits a wall, spends a bit of time trying play with reality, and suddenly finds himself flying above it. How much does it suck, though, to choose a couple of spells, and then not use them, or only rarely. That doesn't really happen with this variant. I do agree that Knowstones should be core.

Well, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that thinks they deserve to get Eschew Materials for free, at least. It's always bugged me that a class that are supposedly magical naturals who cast spells as an art and from the seat of thier pants, as the description would have you beleive, still take so much of a formalized ritual approach to magic. It just dosn't seem to fit.

the sorcerer and wizard each have there strenghts in diffrent campagins.

in a very direct limited rest campagin like the worlds largest dungeon or other games with little down time a sorcerer is a much better choice than a wizard.

but in a game where weeks or months pass between adventures and the heros have a more stable base of operations a wizard can really shine especialy if he knows roughly what to expect from the adventure.

but if the games allways start with no real information and the players spending several levels in non stop action with little knolledge of what is around the corner the wizard suffers.
