hi

i'm basically making this variation because i fell the paladin is a little underpowered at high levels:

It doesn't have the battle focus a barbarian or fighter has. . O.K., you might say it has the spells (horribly few) and the Smitly evil thing (which she can only use one time per day), so it doesn't makes it balanced

so...

this is basically the same as the PHB paladin, exceptas follows

Point Number One: :)

The Paladin may gain access to more smite evil attempts per day. She may smite evil a number of times equal to her paladin levels PLUS his Cha modifier.

Point Number Two: :P

The Paladin may gain access to one of the following domains (and its granted ability) every four levels:

Good
Healing
Law
Sun
War

She gains the spells of each domain as if she was a cleric of level equal to her paladin level - 2. The paladin's caster level is equal to one half her Paladin level.

Point Number Three: :D

The paladin should have a less stricter code, replaced by the

 PALADIN VOWS

1.Vow of Goodness: A paladin might never willingly commit an evil act (she must forfeit all her paladin abilities), and if she unwillingly or unknowingly commits an evil act she must atone in order to gain more levels.
2.Vow of Lawfulness: A paladin must respect her local authorities and always obey the laws of all the places she visits.
3.Vow of Service: A paladin may always that she is able to help other people, do it. She may help evil creatures if they want to be helped with simple tasks (healing, for example).
4.Vow of Purity: A paladin mey never inherit any toxic sustances(drugs, alcohol, coffee, black tea, tobacco, etc.) because they limit her reaction when evil araises.
5.Vow of the Crusader: A paladin is always expected to fight evil(by the force of arms, converting evil creatures) wherever it araises.
6.Vow of Mercy: A paladin may never be mercyless with young or unarmed creatures, even if they are evil. She might not have mercy with evil young creatures or evil creatures that she knows they have commited evil acts.
7.Vow of the Proselitary:A paladin is always expected to preach with her example.
8.Vow of Honor:A paladin may neverbe honorless. She must be honorful in all her acts (not stealing, paying all her debts, etc.) and all her fights (not using poison, not attacking unarmed creatures, not attacking in the back, etc.)

As a final note, the paladin must always choose good over law.
An easy way to play a paladin is thinking ''What would Heironeous do?''

Please tell me what you think about it.

Um, paladins DO get more than 1 smile a day (5 at 20th lvl). In addition, they can take extra smiting for more.

Level 4 paladin spells are quite good. Like, oh, break enchantment, holy sword, and restoration. Not bad for a combat class.

The paladin code is just fine as it is. After all, RP restrictions should not be used to balance gamne mechanics (as the "old" saying goes...)

Paladins can also turn undead. Pathetic, you say? They get lots of turn attempts with their usually high cha. So what, you say? Look at the CW and the CD for the divine feats. Specifically, Divine Vigor, Divine Might, Divine Shield, and Sacred Healing. These are must-haves.

And with all that, the paladin is just fine...even at higher levels.

You are right, mirror, but still in comparation with the PC of my game partners I feel every time I make a paladin it's underpowered in comparation with the party's Fighter. I think it should have a little more ''divine powers'' backing him up.

I wrote the Paladin vows as a guide for players and DM's, because there's a still unfinished arguing about what a paladin should do and what she should not do (not because I thought it would make it underpowered) and also because I think the code described on the PHB isn't clear enough about what a paladin should and shouldn't do.

Oh, I forgot about something: maybe the paladin should have Sense Motive as a class skill. What do you think?

P.S.:Are the extra smiting chances a 3.5 variation?

No. I think it's fine. (I play 3.5, which leads to this...)

P.S.:Are the extra smiting chances a 3.5 variation?

Yes. check out the SRD. It has the paladin class and all, *don'tya know?*

Also, 3.5 isn't a variation. it's now core, so, technically, if you're playing 3e (as it appears you are,) YOU'RE the one playing the "variation". again:

*don'tya know?*
