Advice for a lvl 8 Wiz? [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-10-07, 05:09 PM Getting ready to introduce my new char to our existing FR campaign. Party consists of a Swahbuckler, Monk, a 2h fighter and an archery based fighter. So far i like the idea of Shadow Weave, but apart from that im up in the air regarding: specialize or no, PRCs and other feats. Boosting my DCs would help, as my old cleric had some difficulty landing spells at times. Also, my dm has allowed me to pretty much write my spell book. How many spells of each lvl would there be in a typical lvl 8 book?

I havent played a wizard since very early 3.0, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

09-10-07, 05:17 PM I dont know FR that well, but if you were going into Shadow Weave magic, it makes sense to maybe specialize in one of those schools. If so, you should look at the Master Specialist from CM, especially if you are going Enchantment.

But, if you are worried about saves, you might want to go with other schools than these. Necromancy has some decent debuffs, but also save-or-dies, and both illusion and enchantment are really tied to DCs. If you were to look at other schools, like transmutation or conjuration, youd find less DC-dependant ways to go.

As for the number of spells, youll have 5+ starting Int mod of first level, and 4 each of 2nd through 4th level spells. But I typically devote around 15-20% of my starting income, for any level of wizard, to expanding my spellbook.

09-10-07, 06:12 PM If you can use Complete Arcane think about taking the collegiate wizard feat (page 181) must be taken at first level; this increase the number of spells you know for no gold out lay.
