Advice to meet Pre-requisites for a Mindbender [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-26-07, 05:01 AM Well, the Mindbender has a pre-requisite of 4 ranks in Bluff, Diplomacy, Intimidate and Sense Motive. But unfortunately, wizards don't get them as a class skill, so I'd have to buy them at level 8, or Prestige/Multiclass. But I don't want to lose a caster level! Anyone have any loopholes or something to help me here??

06-26-07, 07:33 AM Take your first level as bard. With a big Int modifier, you'll get plenty of skill points (16 more than plain wizard), and it's not like that one level delay is gonna kill you if you're already accepting losing spellcasting levels from mindbender. Moreover, you'll be able to qualify for the Sublime Chord class.

If you're playing with the Magic Rating rule from UA, it's even better, as mindbender requires arcane CL 5th and not 3rd level arcane spells. Bard1/Wiz4 would qualify as a mindbender to start it at 6th, and be able to get Sublime Chord at 11th, ending up with 9th-lvl spells and plenty abilities.

Or else, take the Able Learner feat if you're human.;)

I think beguilers have a decent number of skill points. Maybe start as a beguiler, get a level in Mindbender, and proceed to ultimate magus?

Why level 8? Cross class skill max ranks are half of your class skill max ranks.
Class skill max ranks = character level + 3
CC skill max ranks = (character level +3)/2

You can get 4 ranks in those by level 5 (5+3=8, 8/2=4), and go into Mindbender at level 6 (the earliest you can get into it from ANY class).

PS: Mindbender is not worth much beyond a one level dip for the telepathy. The loss in CL is not worth it.
