| G_Mancer01-26-07, 08:57 PM | so complete scoundrel made me want to play an elf spellthief. but i have a few questions. 1. in regard to the "steal" abilities, does the spellthief have to allready know what spells the target has? or does he get to pick? 2. if not, then how can a spellthief judge this fairly quickly? 3. are there any spellcasting classes that have decent spell casting (like wizard) and decent BAB (like bard or something)? 4. is there anything that should be pointed out to a player of a spellthief? also i'm not stuck on race, i picked elf because of the secret doors and wizard favored class, butif there are better ideas out there shoot em at me! |

Otherwise, Detect Magic can always work. Though if there are blantly visible signs of the spell's effects, you can always be entitled to a Spellcraft check. 4) You aren't a Rogue. Yeah, I know that is rather obviously. But most spellthief players forget this key fact and end up get squished. Not having Uncanny Dodge or Evasion is very noticeable. Unless you and your party understand this difference (both conscious and unconscious), expect to get pasted. (Though you can gain Uncanny Dodge & Evasion for the cost of two feats through Magic of Incarnum as long as you've got a CN 13. Taking the feat "Shape Soulmeld: Impulse Boots" grants Uncanny Dodge and has no level requirement to take. At 6th lvl, you qualify to take "Open Least Chakra: Feet" to allow to use you soulmeld as a pseudo-magic item. Though it now occupies your boot item slot, the soulmeld now also grants you Evasion.) |
