Over the past week or two there have been a large amount of Paladin threads about a Paladin's CoC and what they can and cannot do.

I feel that there are certain members of this community who will never agree on this topic, so please agree to disagree and move on.

I'm not particularly interested in Paladin CoC & judging from the small number of participants in these debates I'll take a stab in the dark & guess I'm not the only one.

so can we please try to keep the paladin CoC threads to a minimum & kurb highjacking as well.

If some one want to make ONE paladin CoC thread for people to post on, I for one would be most greatful. This forum is for all of the classes, not just paladins.

Thank you in advance, Sidekick.

P.S. I know its a bit hipocritical to start a thread about paladins when I'm tired of hearing about them.

The problem there is that people's interpretations on what a paladin's CoC should/ought have is related to their interpretations of alignments. Since that's already hard enough from which to derive any agreement, and the CoC arguments cover more nuances...

Suffice it say I stay well away from those arguments for the most part. I learned my lesson.

In short, a CoC must disallow paladins from commiting Evil and Dishonorable (a subset of Chaos) acts. Otherwise, anything else is mostly flavor-specific. I could give examples of a variety of paladins I've played before, whose CoC's covered different areas within those restrictions. (shrug) But then both sides would hate me, so I won't. :)

To be blunt, I think you'll just have to put up with it. I don;t like em either, but they are there. I mean, if i had a euro for every thread started about permanent tru strike in an item for 2000Gp i'd be friggin rich by now. There are just certain topics that keep coming and coming, wether you like em or not.

My problem with the Paladin or Monk or Sorceror or min/max vs. role play threads is that no one that is arguing on those threads takes the time to see the other person's point of view. That's why they degenerate into flame wars. People are just so unaccepting of other people's opinions it's sad:(

Whats even worse is that very few people see that point. Eventually threads like that turn into a bunch of contradicting statements, and eventually go in loops until they get closed or people get sick of them. Whats even worse is that they've been around for a very very long time... sooner or latter, you just learn to ignore them all.

hehehe. Everyone has a personal view. I, for example, happen to think that the ranger, as a class sux. A year ago, when i first signed up here, i made it a point of making sure everyone new this... in three days, i got a warning from Snark. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. Yeah, i still think rangers suck, but that’s just my opinion. Why should I go around trying to make everyone think that? After that, I just gradually gave up on the 'which class is the best' debate because I learned that its just a matter of preference. I happen to think the monk rules. Others don't. Having someone tell me otherwise is not going to change my view, and me trying to convince them isn't going to change theirs.

Most people seem to think that there is a 'winning view'. But there isn't. Why? Because- there is no judge on the arguments... however, in this place, there are other judges... people can and will get disqualified.

To discuss all things Paladins, go to Board Order of Paladins, link in my sig.

And there's been another thread which was strictly about the Paladin's code.

I think the alignment, class and philosophy discussions are interesting (that includes the paladin threads). I'd hate to see them disappear. But I agree that the subject should only come up in threads where it was meant to come up. Hi-jacking sucks. True paladin threads are fine with me, i'll probably keep reading them looking for viewpoints.

The way some of these people blast each other's opinions is downright obscene. What's the point? To prove you've got big ba**s on a forum? Whatever happened to looking at an idea from another persons point of view to learn something? Kinda makes me sad to see a game I have played and loved for 20 years become the refuge of such small minded people.

Are all this paladin threads hurting you in any way?

DetectEvil: no they are not 'hurting me', but I have been aviouding this foruc becasue of them. They all have the same people, talking about the same thing. It gets a bit tired.

In retrospect, to expect every-one to leave the tpoic alone is not fair, however I would ask that some-one set up a SINGLE thread for discussing Paladin's and thier CoC / morality etc.

Sir Ferdinand thanks for coming along with the link.

Dragon Master, I know what you mean, I LOVE the Ranger, but I can see why others don't. Its all opinion when it comes to what class is best.

And at the end of the day it doesn't matter "which cclass is the best" so long as the character is fun, interesting & effective (in some way).

And I also think that Yen Wang Lo is right, very few people actually read a full thread and the entire contents of some ones post when a thread has devolved into a flame war. Just do a search for "retroactive skills" and you'll see what I mean.

Peace to you all and other niceties
