| Kobold_Avenger05-18-06, 12:46 PM | I'm looking for a ranger without spells, favored enemy, or the current combat stye. I was wanting to have different abilities for the ranger. Some spell like abilities would be fine though. |
| CzarGarrett05-18-06, 12:56 PM | So you want a fighter who hangs around in the woods? |
| Kobold_Avenger05-18-06, 01:03 PM | More or less. I was hoping for class the ranger and fighter abilties. I would like to have a combat class that would be good for awakened animal predators, as well as thing like monsterous humanoid, magical beasts, and other such creatures. |
| Necropolitan05-18-06, 01:11 PM | More or less. I was hoping for class the ranger and fighter abilties. I would like to have a combat class that would be good for awakened animal predators, as well as thing like monsterous humanoid, magical beasts, and other such creatures. Then you want a RANGER. Or maybe A DRUID? Or perhaps a FIGHTER with speicalized FEATS? Gee, that was hard. |
| Kobold_Avenger05-18-06, 01:27 PM | I said i didn't want the spells, nor the fav enemy or the current combat style choices, and add different abilities. I do want the wilderness skills and the other bonus feats and class features. |
| Seerow05-18-06, 01:36 PM | so you wanted the skills, endurance, and a weak animal companion? You're better off straight Fighter. And that's not saying much. |
| Kobold_Avenger05-18-06, 01:44 PM | and Evasion, track, and hiding features. Add some abilities from other classes to replace the lost features. I really dont give a damn about the animal companion. |
| Necropolitan05-18-06, 01:46 PM | and Evasion, track, and hiding features. Add some abilities from other classes to replace the lost features. I really dont give a damn about the animal companion. Munchkin Ahoy. Fighter/Rouge build, take the Track Feat and enough rouge levels to Qualify for Evasion. Or pure Fighter, Take the Track Feat, and buy a Ring of Evasion. |
| Seerow05-18-06, 01:47 PM | Really then, it sounds like what you want is a Rogue2/FighterX. Endurance and Track are both feats you can get via fighter. You want something "Extra" you need to give an idea of what you consider "extra" that would work. |
| Kobold_Avenger05-18-06, 02:02 PM | I was hoping to avoid multi-classing. As for extra feature perhaps barbarian fast movement. perhaps give one or 2 favored enemies instead of removing it entirely. I was wanting a class that is like a ranger, but without the spell, animal companion, the current combat style choices, or the current favored enemy system. |

YOU CANNOT MIX ALL THE BASE CLASSES TO MAKE A UBERCLASS. IT WOULD NOT BALENCE. EVAR. Multiclass, or DIE. :ahem: |
| Kobold_Avenger05-18-06, 02:17 PM | For the love of... NO. YOU CANNOT MIX ALL THE BASE CLASSES TO MAKE A UBERCLASS. IT WOULD NOT BALENCE. EVAR. Multiclass, or DIE. :ahem: Ok... I was wanting some of the main feature to be removed.. AND I have no intention of making an Uber class.. |
| Necropolitan05-18-06, 02:22 PM | Ok... I was wanting some of the main feature to be removed.. AND I have no intention of making an Uber class.. Bull ****. So far you've listed wanting Fast Movment, Evasion, Free Tracking, Favored enemy and no drawbacks. That's combining several of the key features of the Barbarian, Fighter, Rouge and Ranger, and if you tried to pull that in one of my games, I'd smite you with righteious fury like you woulnd't belive. Multiclass, or DIE. This is your mother's Prayer, Multiclass or DIE, this is the cry of your Gaming EARTH!!! |
| Kobold_Avenger05-18-06, 02:29 PM | Hes losing spells, likely the combat style, and i dont like the favored enemy feature anyway. Thats no drawbacks? |
| Ezell Pike05-18-06, 02:33 PM | I would go Rogue4 /fighterX that way I get more skills and 2d6 on SA. Buy the feat dash for a 5' increase. Ha. |
| Necropolitan05-18-06, 02:41 PM | Hes losing spells, likely the combat style, and i dont like the favored enemy feature anyway. Thats no drawbacks? NO. Your're just taking out things you don't like and calling them neigitves. That's pure munchkin BS. A drawback NEGITIVLY IMPACTS THE CHARACTER. You don't seem to concerned about losing two virtual feats and a handful of petty spells. I say again, my mantra be; MULTICLASS OR DIE. |
| Kobold_Avenger05-18-06, 02:46 PM | Ok if i wanted uberi would combine all the ability of ranger and fighter without losing any features, into a 20 level class, give it fighter's HD size, make its good saving be reflex, and fortitude. Then give it then rangers skill per level, and class skill. |
| Necropolitan05-18-06, 02:50 PM | Ok if i wanted uberi would combine all the ability of ranger and fighter without losing any features, into a 20 level class, give it fighter's HD size, make its good saving be reflex, and fortitude. Then give it then rangers skill per level, and class skill. That's called Multiclass; Fighter10/Ranger10. Multiclass or DIE. |
| Nightwing_2205-18-06, 03:35 PM | In the Complete Warrior there is a Spell-less Variant that gives you Fast Movement and a couple of other abilities instead of Spells. Then there are also the variant Weapon Styles in Dragon 326, such as Bear Wrestling, Mounted Combat, Piscator, Strong Arm and Thrown. |
| Kobold_Avenger05-18-06, 05:54 PM | Thanks guys. I have concluded that Necro has some innate hatred of either me, or modified classes. |
| Kobold_Avenger05-18-06, 06:11 PM | I decided to try my own build. All features are same as ranger except as noted. Removed spells, favored enemy, and animal companion. Added 3 different combat styles. The new combat styles are Bestial Attack, Bestial defence, and Improved Weapon skills. Bestial attack gives: Multiattack then (weapon focus natural only) Finally Improved natural attack. Bestial Defense gives: Diehard, Improved natural armor, then finally either Roll with it or Dodge. Improved combat skills gives: Weapon focus, combat reflexes then improved critical. The first feat in the style is gained at 2nd level as normal, the other are when the style improves. fast movement at lvl 4. Bonus Feats are gained at 1,5,10,15,20 and are selected from they following: Acrobatic, Agile, Alertness, Athletic, stealthy, or Self-Suffucient. Extra Bonus feat at 8th: Background feats or from the above list. Fighter Bonus feats at 12,14,16 and 18. Selected from the fighter bonus feat list. Must still meet requirements for the feat. |
| Seerow05-18-06, 06:18 PM | So let me get this straight... you get a combat style specifically tailored to your character (3 bonus feats), 5 bonus feats from a smaller list, and 5 fighter bonus feats, track, Endurance, 6+int skillpoints, Camoflauge/Hide in Plain Sight... in exchange for an animal companion that would usually die anyway, lousy spellcasting, and favored enemy? Realize a Fighter gains 11 bonus feats as his entirety of class features, and gets 2 SP per level. You drop one hit die and in exchange get 4 extra skillpoints, a better skill list, 15 feats, plus your other woodland stealth stuff? Oh AND fast movement THIS is why Necro was telling you to die. He knew you would post something like this. It's stupid, overpowered, stupid, munchkinish (while being lazy), oh and did I mention stupid? |
| Kobold_Avenger05-18-06, 06:36 PM | Ok how about fighter bonus feat at 12 and 18. Remove the extra feat at 8 and allow you to take a background feat as one of the choices at level 1,5,10,15, or 20. Keep in mind the favored enemy is one of the major abilities of the ranger class. |
| Seerow05-18-06, 06:40 PM | I still say if you want all those feats, just play a Fighter. Favored Enemy may be a big thing, but how often does it really come up? Unless your DM goes along with it and throws your favored enemies your way. |
| Ghostwheel05-18-06, 06:49 PM | While Necropolitan's tone is impolite, his intent is on the mark. This is the most blatant power-grab excuse for a class that I have seen in quite a while. Have a nice day! :) |
| Szatany05-18-06, 06:50 PM | I'm looking for a ranger without spells, favored enemy, or the current combat stye. I was wanting to have different abilities for the ranger. Some spell like abilities would be fine though. Here you go. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=169174) |
| Nebo05-18-06, 06:50 PM | The Iron Kingdoms campaign setting has a ranger that is almost exactly what you are describing. |
| Kobold_Avenger05-18-06, 07:09 PM | Wow!! :D Some constructive posts! |
| Kobold_Avenger05-18-06, 07:20 PM | perhaps remove the fighter bonus feats. the bonus feats starts at 5. and get evasion at level 12? |
| Kobold_Avenger05-19-06, 03:35 AM | Hmm... perhaps barbarian would work as well.. and for heaven's sake!! I posted for ideas or suggestions, not to start a flame war |
