My idea was to grant the fighter feats through having a set amount of ranks in a skill. Here a few examples: Ride: 6 Ranks-Mounted Combat 10 Ranks- Ride-By-Attack 14 Ranks- Sprited Charge 18 Ranks- Trample Tumble: 6 Ranks- Dodge 10 Ranks- Mobility 14 Ranks- Spring Attack Escape Artist: 10 Ranks- Improved grapple Intimidate: 6 Ranks- Power Attack 10 Ranks- Cleave 14 Ranks- Greater Cleave or 6 Ranks Power Attack 10 Ranks- Improved Overrun 14 Ranks- Improved Bull Rush and so on... I know escape artist and tumble are not fighter feats, but it would make sense that they could possibly be. Escape Artist for grappling, Tumble to be agile on the battlefield. If all the feats were broken down into skill trees, it would eliminate the fighter from using all the bonus feats to add to versatility, and let the feat selection add more flavor with feat selection. The fighter would still have to meet the prereqs for the feats, and also could be limited to a certain number of trees based on skills, which they have decide at first. Since they only do have a 2+int skills modifier, it does not seem like it would break the system to me. It is just a random idea I came up with, and am still working on. The ranks are an abritrary number, just used as examples. Any suggestions on how to elaborate on this idea, or criticism on why it would never work? |

Just seems confusing how you're supposed to use these things and it looks like a lot of extra work since I'm sure that everything you're turning into a skill is going to need extra rules on how they work. I think that you just need to explain a little bit more. |

The majority of classes have spells with add to the flavor of the class, and barbarians and rogues are littered with useful/interesting abilities. Since the fighter really has only feats going for it, this would be a way to obtain versatility by using skills (which are nothing really to great in terms of what they get) and allow for at least the bonus feats to be used in more character personality feats (ie throw anything). |
