Alternate class features in strange places... [Archive] - Wizards Community

I'm looking for opinions on whether alternate class features should be allowed in other places than the classes they're made for... my immediate feeling is a definite maybe and, as such, should be a case by case basis. I know that by RAW, a lot of these features could only be swapped out in the classes they are made for...

As an example, Complete Mage has spell sense as a substitution for the trap sense of barbarians and rogues. If a PrC grants trapsense, such as divine oracle, would spell sense be a possible substitution?

I don't see why not as long as dm is ok with it. But there is defenitely no rules (RAW or RAI) regarding applying ACFs to PrC. PrCs are varied enough not to need ACF (just take a different PrC).

. . . PrCs are varied enough not to need ACF (just take a different PrC).
True enough. :)

Indeed.

The various alternate features out there, from Unearthed Arcana, PHB 2, Complete Champion, and Complete Mage (and possibly others), make a great resource for creating new PrCs. It could be a simple matter of starting with an existing class, swapping out a couple of equivalent features, and giving it a new name. "Presto!" new PcC, customized for your campaign world.
