Would anyone be interested in a hexblade variant? What's always drawn me to the hexblade is its anti-magic abilities, curses, and melee capability. I never really liked the spell/familiar aspect of the class so I thought a variant would be really cool.

I was thinking of removing:

-Spellcasting
-Familiar

And adding:

-Higher skillpoints(4 instead of 2) and a some extra class skills(spot, listen, search, and sense motive)
-Give more curse uses per day(extra use/day every 3 levels instead of 4)
-Increase curse potency and/or give the hexblade many different types of curses with more specific effects than the basic curse.

I really think it would be cool if the curse concept was fleshed out a bit more in place of having spells. :)

Whadda you guys think?

It could make a very good variant. I especially like the idea of getting new various curse types, although the curse is pretty powerful now (-2/4/6 to everything requiring a dice roll? WEEEEEEEE)

yeah but the save DC for it kind of stinks.

10 + 1/2 HD from Hex Blade + Cha mod.

i dont know.. the class already requires some MAD. Str, Con, Dex, Cha, i dont know, its one of those things that makes me not like the class. The Spell-list was pretty crappy at first glance, and second, and third, and fourth.. ect ect.
I mean, damn give'em truestrike atleast cause more than likely they are gonna have a crappy or sub optimal Str and a true strike power attack might help ease the pain of being such a wimpy fighter/mage.

Lose:

-Spellcasting
-Familiar
-Spellcraft class skill

Gain:

-4+INT skillpoints(from 2)
-Listen, Sense Motive, and Spot to class skills
-Full hexblade level used in DC calculation(from 1/2)

This variant would be stronger, but the base class was lacking a bit to begin with.

Like?

Changing the the DC for the Curse is a bad idea. Right now it is pretty much on par with every other save. A better way to make the curse less of a hit or miss would be feats that improve it. For Example: one that gives more curses per day, one that raises the DC by 2, one that gives alternate effects, etc.

I feel that will fix the slightly lower powerlevel Hexblades have.

As to your variant- I do not like the idea. The hexblades have a lot of flavor. And fit into a niche [i do however hate the other two classes from CW]. Besides if you remove spell casting I really do not think bonus skills will balance it out. It will probably make it weaker. (Unless you do the full caster level save- cause then the only point to roll to save is to check for a natural 20).
