Alternate paladin mount [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-31-07, 08:53 PM Are there any actual rules for improving paladin mounts over the basic warhorse. How does a paladin get mounts like Pegasi, Unicorns, Griffins, and Dire Lions?

Rules for paladin mounts are in the DMG on p200 and p224 for unusual mounts -- including camels, celetial and fiendish worhorses, dire wolves, hippogriffs, giant spiders, sharks, unicorns, etc., etc.

Basically, you had to wait until levels higher than 5th to gain something other than the standard warhorse, pony, or riding dog.

Alternately, any character can use the leadership feat to try attracting a cohort suitable to be used as a mount.
