alternate to alternate classes. [Archive] - Wizards Community

in a campaign i'm running, a PC has taken a drow cohort, who is a priestess of sharess. she broke from tradition ages ago and was drawn to the hedonism of sharess, although still retains her bitey, arrogant and condescending ways.

my concern is this: she's very non-combat oriented, and with her vast intellect and general disdain for the 'slave work' of dragging around a sword and shield, she'd rather hang back and use her spells to help the party. essentially, she's more suited to the 'cloistered cleric' variant from the d20srd - less physical and more intellectual.

however, this variant seems to be focused around knowledge - i'm considering re-tooling it so it is more based on hedonism and arrogance, more suited to her, so does anyone have any ideas how i could make the changes more fitting with a priestess of sharess?

01-20-08, 08:52 PM Uh, don't? Just have her domain choices reflect her nature. Flavor is mutable. Besides, you said "vast intellect". That kind of displays a 'knowledge-y' character, at least to some degree.

01-20-08, 10:18 PM Perhaps I should've taken that into consideration before posting - it's a good point.

I should mention that her stats are as follows: Int 14, Cha 17, Wis 16, so she's perhaps not of a 'vast intellect' as I'd mentioned, but is mentally very formidable. It may be the only thing that chides with my concept of her is the knowledge domain, although, really, I could cede to that and perhaps the 'Lore' ability: she may be smart, but she's not really the "Hey, I read about a similar type of gem just last week, did you know that..." type person.

Hope that cleared some questions up.

Now, what are you trying to say with that last part? I'm sorry, I'm just not understanding you.

01-20-08, 11:20 PM Go full-on Cloistered Cleric and to hell with the Knowledge domain. It doesn't really matter. Actually, looking at the class, it doesn't fit at all. It trades physical power for knowledge, which you don't want. Make her a standard cleric, just without any feats/money spent on combat.

01-20-08, 11:38 PM Smite's (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#cleric) always good for a combat cleric(especially since it comes with an anti fear aura, which you could argue subbing out for one of the variant Paladin Auras).

Cloistered is for a cleric who battles whatever by supporting the party with healing, buffing, & knowledge of what they're trying to kill(which is very helpful for coming up with killer strategies), rather than going CoDzilla on things(although, Divine Power still lets you that that some).
