| pukunui10-13-07, 10:33 PM | Hi all, One of my players has a warlock PC. The other day, I showed him the warlock invocations from Complete Mage and Dragon Magic, and his response was to suggest making it so his character's invocations switched randomly once a day or once a week. He also suggested allowing a save of some sort in order to "keep" a given invocation. His reasoning was that this sounded sort of "chaotic and warlocky" and would let him try out some of the more obscure invocations that he might not otherwise choose for himself since his character gets so few to begin with. It's certainly an intriguing idea. I'm as interested in seeing some of the weirder invocations in play as he is (my favorites are Crawling Eye and Disembodied Hand from Complete Mage) and with 4th Edition coming in less than a year, there's not much time left to try these things out (because, although it sounds as though the warlock will be in the 4e PHB, there's no telling what invocations will be in there, or even if the warlock will still have them at all). The trouble is I don't really know how to go about doing it. Any thoughts? Is this too crazy? Is there a good way of doing it? Obviously, I would make it so only invocations of the same level could be swapped out (so no getting a Dark invocation randomly in place of a Least one, for instance). Should I just draw up some tables for all the Least, Lesser, Greater, and Dark invocations and just roll on them each session or something? Just thought I'd throw it out there and see how people react. Cheers, Jonathan |

All others of the same level are determined randomly at the beginning of each day. Doing it every day is easier to keep track of and more "Chaotic and Warlocky" as you have put it. How to randomly determine might be a little tricky. Maybe list all the invocations and use a random number generator to determine them. |

I'll do some investigating and get back to you. Thanks. |
