Alternative Druid Animal Companion query [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-01-05, 07:29 PM Let's say you are creating a new eleventh level druid with a dire ape (level -6) animal companion.

If the druid had called it as soon as he could, the druid would have gotten the ape at seventh level, four levels ago.

Does the dire ape follow the animal companion improvement table as if the druid were fourth level, or at the druids actual level?

In essence, will the ape have +2 bonus HD, or +6 bonus HD? Does it start with link and share spells, or link, share spells, evasion, devotion, and multiattack?

11-01-05, 07:39 PM So, which one... :thinks: i would say that you sould go with the latter(the one that makes you more powerful) but that's only 'cause I'm like that. :angelhide Ask your DM to see what to do. If YOU are the Dm, then go with your gut( :plotting: ) and do the thing that you think would help the party, as well as assist the individual Druid. 11-01-05, 07:42 PM Yeah it is right here " a druid of sufficiantly high level can select her animal companion from one of the following lists and apply the indicated adjustmant to the druid's level (in paranthases) for the purpose of determining the companions characteristics and special abilities"

P.S. Twink I was the first reply and second if you check the PHB you would see the official rule.
