The thing is that the classes from Tome of Magic are a bit underpowered. What I am wondering is that with the typical casters out of the way, what would the balance of the Tome of Magic classes be like? In addition, what are some other good alternatives to Arcane and Divine magic? |

Well, the standard Arcane & Divine caster classes(wizard, cleric, & druid) are the best classes in the game... Period. Now, with that in mind, from what I can make out from the Tome of Magic, the magic is oddball, but there are class features to get by with. For example, the Shadow Caster has a d6 for hit dice & 2 good saves, plus some generally good class features. I haven't actually had time to fully figure out the spell-casting system, but from what little I do understand, the spell-casting really isn't that bad(though be it, specialized). As best as I can tell, it's kinda like having various spell-like abilities that you get more uses for as you lv up, but that's the best I've got on it. To make them more viable class options, make sure that each class has just one stat that they have to rely on for spell casting. That's what I do for any spell-casting class with one stat for using spells and another for saves. It's stupid for a class to use 2 stats for spell casting & WotC should stop doing that to classes they make. Period. EDIT: After some thought, it occurred to me that Warlock might fit in decently with the Tome of Magic classes, since it too is an unconventional caster class. |

I know they aren't nearly as powerful as other spellcasters, but it should bring them down to the speed of most other classes. I have been putting in either the warlock or dragonfire adept and Tome of Battle. Right now the warlock seems the more likely. |
