Am I adding this wrong? [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-09-07, 11:59 PM Hello everyone, this being my first time playing a Monk I was wondering if I was doing this wrong.

To hit when using Flurry of Blows I add my str (+6), my base attack bonus (+4 since im lvl 6), and my Flurry of Blows attack bonus which being +3 would make it +13 to hit with my first attack and then +11 with my 2nd since the 2nd flurry takes a -2 penalty.

Assuming I hit with both, the dammage would be 1d8+6/1d8+6.

For a lvl 6 character this seems a little strong, I tried reading the discriptions a few times over and cant seem to find anything wrong but I wanted to make sure before I take this character to the table for play.

09-10-07, 12:05 AM The flurry of blows BAB is the BAB you use. So it would be 9/9 to attack because of +6 STR.

you don't add the BAB you exchange individual acuracy for extra hits

09-10-07, 12:07 AM When you make a full attack, you get two attacks at +9/+9. That's your base attack bonus + str - flurry penalty (4 + 6 - 1 = 9). The penalty to attacks from your flurry applies to all the attacks you make in that round, including attacks of opportunity.

Don't add the "Flurry Of Blows Attack Bonus." In fact, ignore that entire collumn of the table. It's only there as a shortcut - that collumn shows your base attack bonus minus the penalty from using flurry of blows, and lists all the attacks you'd get to make in a full attack.

09-10-07, 12:08 AM Secondly the 1d8+6 only applies to unarmed attacks, use weapon damage when using weapon. You probably already understood this one.

09-10-07, 12:09 AM Well to start 22 is a very abnormal str for a monk(do you have abnormally high stats/an LA you're not counting/to much gear for your level?).

No you would add your flurry of blows attack bonus for both attacks not your BAB+flurry(your flurry of blows replaces your base attack when you use it) so it would be +3+6=+9 to hit on both attacks with 1d8+6 damage.

The flurry of blows set numbers is the monks BAB at that level altered with the flurry of blows ability. Its basically there for quick reference, it doesn't get added in addition to your BAB.

6 +4=10:
-1 due to Flurry= +9.

FoBAB is a short cut is you can't subtract flurry from BAB (Desihners consider monks lazy maybe).

Using Short cut we get:
3 +6=+9.
