Human Dread Necromancer with Tomb-tainted Soul. This is how I assume he'll work-

1. He can use charnel touch to heal as undead (1 + 1/4 levels) NOT 1d8+1/4 levels)
2. He is not affected (and therefore not healed) by his own negative energy burst. Read the opposite in the optimization subforum and got confuzzled.
3. Bestow Wounds will actually double my own damage in the transfer, because it works "as cure."
4. TTS only reverses the positive/negative energy wrt healing, and doesn't offer any special immunities to level drain and other "negative" effects.

This sound reasonable?

EDIT: While I'm at it-

What's a good martial weapon to use? The vast majority of the campaign is a dungeon crawl that will render ranged and reached weapons rather moot after a round or two.

Why not just become a necropolitan?

I chose a scythe, mostly for flavor. However, I have been incredibly pleased with the result. During the first few levels, I managed one crit per night, which did mad damage. By level 5, your BAB has dropped too far behind, and you will be hard pressed to continue even using your melee weapon against all but scrubs. Then your touch attacks become much more reliable and effective. So ultimately, your weapon choice won't matter for very long.

Now I could be wrong, but my understanding of the Dread Necromancer and Tomb Tainted Soul combo is that it does work, with just the 1 + 1/4 levels hp and not the 1d8+1/4 levels hp. I think it works fine.

As for the weapon, I'll agree that a scythe is great for flavor, but I'd tend to suggest the greatsword (or maybe the greataxe). Since you're not proficient with shields, you might as well use a good, solid two-handed weapon. You could use a polearm for reach, but in a dungeon, that might end up being more of a liabilty than anything else...

I've been playing it a while, just testing out different characters. The DM is allowing absolutely anything. Anyway, the dungeon is mostly 10-foot tunnels with 20x30 foot rooms. The absolute biggest room I've seen was maybe 50x50.

I was thinking halberd, mostly because I like it :P
