I still only have a rough idea of how it should work, though, and i was hoping for some help balancing it. It would work something like this: At first level, the fighter would get weapon focus with any weapon (or weapon group, as in Unearthed Arcana, I'm not sure which would be better). Then, at fourth level, the fighter gains WF with another weapon or weapon group, and gains weapon specialization for either of them. At eighth level, the fighter would gain WF with a third weapon or weapon group, and could choose to gain GWF with any weapon he had Specialization in, or to Gain weapon Specialization for any he only had focus in. At 12th level, the fighter would gain WF with a fourth group, and could choose between taking Greater Weapon Specialization for the any he had GWF in, GWF for any he had Specialization in, or WS for any he only had focus in. Then, at both 16th and 20th level, the fighter would take an additional focus, and at each he could take WS, GWF, or GWS for any as before at level 12. Reading that back, it looks really confusing, but if you think about it, and remember that it should work like a ranger's favored enemy, it actually works out pretty nicely. So what do you think? should it apply to single weapons or weapon groups? should the fighter get a slowed Bonus feat progression in addition to this? What else could a fighter be given in addition to this? |
