Gilhaelith 04-19-04, 02:09 PM	My girlfriend wants to play an amazon. Is there a official/unofficial core class for the amazon? Her idea is something along the lines of spears, horseback, and archery just like the ancient greek Amazon (and i suppose Diablo ;) )
Tony Vargas 04-19-04, 02:24 PM	Well, the official core class for the amazon would almost have to be fighter - though I suppose you could go with (or mix in) barbarian or ranger. Definitely consider: - emphasizing DEX - Archery feats (& weapons specialization) - mounted combat feats - close substitutes for classical weapons in D&D: breastplate, heavy shield and half-spear or trident, shortsword (use with weapon finesse instead of a rapier), composite bows, other spears (when not using a shield), javelins, etc. - having some bluff and/or stealth skills (heros of antiquity were often sneaky, as well as tough) ... There's almost certainly a PrC out there somewhere, too...

In the various class handbooks there was an Amazon kit for most classes. What you'd want is probably the fighter version. If you absolutely must play 3e, a normal Barbarian, Fighter, or Ranger with proper RP could be an amazon. You might even consider letting her take Favored Enemy- Male Humanoids.
Szatany 04-19-04, 03:47 PM	There is also amazon core class in d20 diablo game. It has 25 levels, tons of abilities to choose from, and is quite cool. Its, obviously, strongly tied to amazon seen in diablo 2.
Sunrider 04-19-04, 03:59 PM	A mounted fighter/ranger with high Dex, high Ride score, a Composite Longbow (whatever enchantments, Speed is particularly good) and a quiver of infinite arrows (preferably more than one, to allow you to choose the ammunition type) is lethal in open combat. Using Mounted Archery and Rapid Shot you can rain arrows down on an enemy from long distance and, with a lightly-armoured mount, run circles around them and keep firing until they're down - with the quivers of infinite arrows you don't have to worry about running out of ammo. An amazon raiding force, consisting of eleven or twelve such mounted archers - well, you get the picture... On the other hand, dungeon and urban combat is more difficult for such a character, although not impossible.
