| Koga:The ninja trick07-19-05, 01:14 PM | Yes, for you see, The Koga has made it his mission to see fair and balanced gameplay amongst all party members. He always believes he's right and everybody else is wrong. However, none of The Koga's plans have gone.. well as planned, and like Doctor Doom this is not a failure, just a minor setback. But this new idea to bring game balance exceeds even The Koga's risk taking.. He wants someone else to try it first because they have more braincells to spare incase it's another setback.. :P Inorder to create game balance, one must give the players a slew of classes they are not ceartain of how to abuse yet. Only through random, hectic, chaos can one insure that no-one stays ontop. Much like capitalism, allow the people to THINK they're ontop of the heap, and throw stuff at them they've never seen before. The only consistant thing is the unexpected. What class can dominate THAT sortof field? Therefor, throw away all the classes you knew and use THIS.. http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=197561 The Core Class Compendium! Now once again, The Koga is not sure this could completely work! Even he is having second thoughts about encouraging such a discerei of randomness in one's game! But it's a thought.. To use homebrew classes made by the forum members.. Because no-one would see it coming.. |
| mytrustyd2007-19-05, 03:17 PM | I see that you have stumbled upon one of my most successful tricks, Koga. Too many have tried this but fear of failure can be a refreshing appetizer to success, eh? True class balance is attainable but the chaos of class changes keep the flux in play, rotating the players into new and ever more exciting adventures with their DM (you and me, eh?) I suggest you consider also make mandatory class changing at every third level. This can be random for more fun. It is a great role playing possibility! Players can really enjoy letting their pants down, as it were. Ha ha. You know what I mean, Koga-Sai! In my many years of playing D&D I have learne done truth: Surround yourself with wise men and you will taste the fruits of their indiscretions, as well as your own. |
| mytrustyd2007-21-05, 11:28 AM | I was thinking...if what would happen to play balance if we gave the warrior and skills classes free advancement every second level in spell ability as if they were a sorceror? Would this address the issues, my ninja friend? |
| ArochanoX07-21-05, 12:04 PM | I'm also concerned about the balance. Why don't you rate all those classes by balance (read-through), balance (in-game) and fluff? That would make it easier to get the basic idea if something is overpowered or otherwise flawed. You should also rate those classes wizards have made so we could see what you think is powerful and what is not. Good idea! |
| mytrustyd2007-21-05, 02:34 PM | That's not a bad idea. When I was at Mcdonald's once I overhead a gem of wisdom from a balding assistant manager. His advice, spewn through french fry flavored lips was something like this "You can try all you like, but sometimes you burn yourself on the frier". I think this applies here, especially in regards to attempts to balance the bard and druid class (with all their complexities). Koga: are you still experimenting with your ninja friends? I'm guessing that the results would be welcomed by some of the more liberal players out there. |
| mytrustyd2007-22-05, 09:09 AM | Well, it appears that the broth has just thickened, as Koga and I have really added the full larder! The next rule change is set up in order to balance the druid, who many believe is too powerful. Here is the idea: druids get d4 hit points and cast like sorcerors (they do NOT get full access to their spell list; they pick their spells and are then stuck with them). They also gain the jump skill and get a free plus four in jumping. Why? Because I think Koga really enjoys jumping druids! Isn't that right, Koga? To balance the ranger, the should be a choice between bardic music or monk-like wilderness stealth (ninja!) fighting open handed attack ability! With these changes, I think Wizards will be all OVER trying to sign the Ninja Trick and I up with some mad cash. Keep a rockin' baby. Koga and D20! |
| RadicalTaoist07-22-05, 03:28 PM | Koga might as well go for the Ultimate Ninja Trick and use Szatany's genius creations. Or my ranger variant at least *shameless plug in* |
| mytrustyd2007-25-05, 09:55 AM | Koga: One thing that can really unbalance a campaign is disease and overuse of martial arts. A combination of that (a leprous ninja, eh?) could be just the ticket for balance. Also, size-increasing magic only could increase the effects of the sickness, don't you think? Anyway, we had a great game over the weekend-the new rules rock hard. The coolest thing was when the the players leveled up, one of them took a level of Koga Ninja...and let me tell you, the abilities are incredible! |
| mytrustyd2007-26-05, 10:37 AM | Koga: What do you think about my ideas? |
| Manyfist07-26-05, 10:42 AM | The way to balance this... make every one play NPC Classes! :evillaugh You must dip into a Commoner at 1st lvl. :evillaugh |
| ragingmaro07-26-05, 11:50 AM | I like your ideas The Koga but please never ever say The Koga again |
