| Jaytastic07-13-05, 01:18 PM | I recently started trolling these boards and I've noticed very little conversing about the Warmage class (found in the complete arcane). I just started a new game and figured I would take a chance with this class. I figure ****, lets just see what it can do, seemed to be a strong class and I enjoy experiencing new things. Any opinions from anyone who's played one into the teen levels? As it stands my warmage is level 6 with these feats: Battle Caster, Improved Edge, and Arcane Strike. This seems to be the greatest support class i've played, if not overpowering. Being able to do 8 damage with a 0 level spell (3dmg +5 edge), spontaneous casting with such a large range of spells allows the mage to adjust to any situation. Does anybody have any comments, suggestions for ways to make playing the class better, or anything really to tell me about this class? It would be appreciated. |

Literally. ;) It's tough on your party if the only arcane caster is a vanilla Warmage ... it means no haste, stoneskin, teleport, summon monster ... no using many staves or scrolls you find ... few "save or die" spells like Hold Person. IMO the Warmage works best as a second party arcane caster. If you like your spellcasters doing damage this is a super fun class to play. Most builds seem to either focus on doing more with the blasting spells (I *highly* reccomend the Shape Spell metamagic feat) or adding more spells. The latter is usually done via the Arcane Disciple feat (complete divine) or a PrC like Rainbow Serpent (complete divine), Mage of the Arcane Order (you will need Arcane Preparation, Cooprative Spell, and one other metamagic feat but the payoff is a lot of flexibility), or Sand Shaper. I've also seen suggeations for making Warrior Warmages by going Eldrich Knight. Sounds like that would be fun too given that you already have Arcane Strike. |
