If you got the quote, then you know that this thread concerns the movie "Braveheart." If you didn't get the quote then ... well, now you know what it was from ;)

The focus here is William Wallace, his friend Hamish Campbell, and the Irishman, Mad Stephen. I just watched the movie for the hundredth time and thought to myself, "You know what would be fun? Building Wallace and his friends as D&D characters. That'd be a hoot and a half."

So here we are. I'm not really focusing on what they would translate most closely to in D&D terms (that'd make all three of them fighters for the most part). I'm thinking of trying to expand on their characters and create D&D characters loosely based on their traits and actions (kinda like the movie is loosely based on history).

I was thinking that Wallace could be a Crusader (tome of battle) with a focus on the Devoted Spirit and White Raven disciplines. My reasoning behind this is that he is a very devout Christian and believes strongly in a singular cause: the freedom of Scotland. White Raven comes in with his leadership ability and all the leading-the-charge stuff.

I'm stuck on Hamish. I was thinking barbarian, but I don't know if he ever "rages," per say. His father seems to fit that class better. A little help here, please :)

And I would stat Mad Stephen as a rogue/scout. He seems to favor a lot of attacking on the move, or at least a very quick, fluid style.

Of course, any ideas/help/suggestions are welcomed, but please no "STFU movie geek" because then you can "GTFO" :) Having said that, feel free to discuss all things Braveheart, but try to keep the Mel Gibson bashing (because I do expect at least a little) to a minimum (or at least reserve it for intelligent, unbiased conversation).

And yes ... I am a Braveheart fanboy. It's seriously my favorite movie of all time, and I realize a bit of hypocrisy on my part because it is historically inaccurate and offers nothing more than escapism ... but I don't care. It is good people, and I reserve the right to fanboy for one thing, and that is Braveheart.

Fighter, barbarian, rogue, scout, warrior, pretty much any fighting class without any spells, (Su), or (Sp) abilities.

I would make William a fighter. The only problem that would make is finding out how he can decimate armies with fire balls from his eyes and lightning from his arse ;)

custom grafts?

I could think Hamish would rage. Didnt he do that in the end of the movie? Kind of hard to tell if someone is raging, or just really ticked.

Maybe he's also a crusader but focuses more on the stone dragon than the white raven school.

Ive also seen a berserker TOB class that's supposed to be the equivelant of the Barbarian.

Ive also seen a prc based on William Wallace. Epic Scotsman I think.

Since I'm a Braveheart fanboy also, I'll jump in.

:)

I would make Wallace as a Warblade, Actualy. He CERTIANLY has White Raven... which the warblade also gets. However, I think his tactical and battle prowes in the movie were above Crusader, and far more in line with the 'thinking mans fighter' that the Warblade is, with the int synergy.

I would make Hamish as a Barbarian, as his father is CERTIANLY one. However, to reflect his greater control over and less frequent use of his rage, give him the Players Handbook 2 version or Rage, where he only enters a rage when down a certain amount of hp. We never did see him get all that messed up in the movie.

Lastly, Mad Stephen. Here, I would go with a Ranger/Scout combo.

Depends how much you want to go into it. Sure, you can do it as a crusader - or as a fighter, fighter/marshall, or what have you.

@ Shadowhowler: Yes, I agree. The warblade would fit him a bit better. With Hamish, maybe the Unearthed Arcana "whirling frenzy" rage variant, where you get extra attacks. That has a little less of an uncontrollable rage feel which I don't think Hamish has.

@ Qube: Haha. Yes. That would rock.
