Anung_Un_Rama 11-17-06, 02:56 AM	A friend of mine is looking to build a fighter whose sole purpose is ranged combat with a longbow. This is all fine and dandy, and all of us love the current build, but we can't find any PrC's that continue what he wants to do. All of the archery based PrC's seem geared towards sniping and sneakiness, when he just wants to sit back and fire off arrow after arrow after arrow. Any suggestions on where I could find such a PrC? I'm not above designing one for him, as I've homebrewed classes and PrC's for friends before, but I'd like to find something official or already made before I devote too much time and effort into making something.
daganisoraan 11-17-06, 03:12 AM	Available prestige class depends of your need Range = Cragtop Archer (races of stone) Damage = Order of the bow Initiate (complete warrior) Snipping = Deepwood Sniper (master of the wild) Multiple fire = none :( simply take fighter level until you have all rapid shot and manyshot feats, then take one of the above Prc. If you want to get all those feat as fast as you can. Take 2 fighter level, 2 psychic warrior level and 2 ranger level.
Iarmeister 11-17-06, 03:15 AM	Peerless Archer from the FR setting. Check out the FR message boards, as it has a thread entitled, appropriately enough: Peerless Archer. PA is actually 3.0, and the suggestions to update are very cool: change Wilderness Lore class skill to Survival and/or Knowledge (nature). Also, the class has a feature called Sharp Shooting. Be sure to read up on what my DM and I suggested. What makes the PA so cool is not just their ranged sneak attack, rather it's their 3rd level class ability called Power Shot. Think ranged Power Attack. Yea, baby!!! Oh, that and they can craft magic arrows. :D
shadowpavement 11-17-06, 07:52 AM	I once made an NPC who was a Half Orc fighter who specialized in the Greatbow from Complete Warrior. It seemed to fit with his high strength and also qualified him for the Exotic weapon master PrC which allowed him fire his HUGE arrows while in melee as well as dissarming folk from range.
Rulebook 11-17-06, 11:05 AM	heh kinda like my old gimmick monkey gripping half-ogre using a huge greatbow. my buddy discribed it as "pinning your enemy to the ground with telephone poles"
solbergb 11-17-06, 02:29 PM	OOTBI is crap for damage. It focuses on single shot instead of volley fire. If you just wanna do damage and don't give a darn about skills, pure fighter until level 12 actually does it the best. There are just about enough good archery feats to fill out the archer skill list. The kind of default build of this type, focusing just on to-hit and damage using Complete Warrior (CW) and core: Wood Elf with 18 strength 16 dex, statbumps to dex 1: point blank, precise 2. rapid 3. weapon focus bow 4. weapon spec bow 5 6 multishot, imp rapid shot (CW) 7 8 imp crit 9 imp weapon focus 10 quickdraw 11 12 imp precise shot, greater weapon spec I actually like quickdraw worked in a lot earlier. If the player sticks to one bow most of the time and almost always has it out though, it can be a later pick. the only feat missing from this list that I really like is Woodland Archer (Races of Wild). Quickdraw and WA might be better L6 picks than multishot and improved rapid shot. PHB2 may have some other feats good for the post level 12 range. A build that can keep up maxed spot ranks looks more like this (ranger/fighter) 1 R1 point blank 2 F1: precise 3 R2 rapid, quickdraw 4 F2. weapon focus 5 F3. 6 F4. weapon spec bow, woodland archer (RW) 7 F5 8 F6 multishot 9 F7 imp rapid shot (CW) 10 F8 imp weapon focus 11 F9 12 F10 imp crit, imp precise shot 13 F11 14 F12 greater weapon spec

KoreKore 11-17-06, 02:39 PM	well lets see here the best archer for damage output was a lvl 15 targeteer(that is a fighter vairent in a Dragon mag) lvl 5 master archer(in the ultamate presteige classes it isn't wotc but it has some nice flavor) With boots of speed and a flaming frost shocking distance balanced oversized composit longbow and the right feats she was able to get in 72 shots a round ( look up the feat cover fire) with decent bab till around the end she was also human. Oh and as far as dmg output she did a max non crit of 4554dmg if all the arrows hit. Only used her once in a epic arena game it was nastey turned the opponent into a pincussion.
Elemental_Master 11-17-06, 03:20 PM	Maybe a dip in sorc and Arcane Archer. Never underestimate not having to buy +5 bonus for your bow.
