| Dogurasu_Thanatos10-22-05, 01:57 AM | I have a weird question that may never be answered, but here it goes. I like the idea of an arcane NPC class, the magewright, but I really, really don't like the absolute inoffensive capabilities of that class. Arcanists are supposed to have power. Yes, I know that the adept has offensive magic; I know that NPC classes are supposed to be weaker than base classes; I know that the magewright's spell list is pretty good -- for the setting of Eberron; I know that Wizards set things up the way they did for a reason. I still want to change it. Could someone give me an idea for what kind of spells I would give an NPC class I will simply call the mage? |

| Dogurasu_Thanatos10-22-05, 01:24 PM | That's the idea. I like the fact that you only get as many spells as your Intelligence will allow -- no spellbook, making the mage class that much weaker, and that much is a lot! -- and I think it makes sense for an NPC class. But no offensive spells? Look at the adept! A divine caster NPC class with spells like burning hands, wall of fire, and the staple lightning bolt, and they're all at the proper levels. And a d6 Hit Die on an NPC class caster! Where do divinists get that extra HD upgrade?! Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way. Perhaps I could make them junior wizards, giving them access to only one, maybe two schools of magic? In any case, thanks for the input, Jaid! |

| Dogurasu_Thanatos10-22-05, 02:59 PM | This is true, but it's not what I'm looking for, flavorwise. Mages would be those minor practitioners, those that can get ahold of a couple of books and know a couple of spells but not ever be able to study magic completely, because of the cost or lack of facilities or what have you. They would be hedge wizards, folk magic practitioners, maybe even somebody that just knows a few extra tricks that he picked up. Thanks for your input, kalstrand! |
