Tal'eth 04-17-05, 01:29 AM	Just wondered if there was an official ruling as to exactly how the Ghost Step ability works. Is the Ninja (for example) invisible for the entire round that he activates this ability or only invisible up until he makes an attack during the round? Thanks for your help!! Take care:)

Mirikon 04-19-05, 11:30 AM	Ghost Step (Su): Starting at 2nd level, a ninja can spend one daily use of her ki power to become invisible for 1 round. Using this ability is a swift action (see Swift Actions and Immediate Actions, page 137) that does not provoke attacks of opportunity. Emphasis added by me. As you can see, it just says invisible, not invisibility as the spell. As such, it is subject to the benefits and limitations of the invisibility condition as described in the DMG, but not the limitations of the invisibility spell. Attacks, therefore, would not end the effect.
Keenath 04-19-05, 11:38 AM	Gotta go with Mirikon on this one. Unless it says "gains the benefits of invisibility, as the spell", you don't turn visible from attacking. That's a specific drawback to the invisibility spell. Since it just says "invisible", that's a condition described in the SRD and has no particular ending conditions beside the duration expiring. Next question, if I hit it again immediately at the start of my next turn, do I stay totally invisible for two rounds running, or do I flicker into sight for an instant between the two uses? Could it trigger readied actions of those around me? I would tend to go with the idea that I remain entirely invisible as long as I burn the Ki to do it.
holymadness83 04-19-05, 03:25 PM	it appears the jury is still out on this one. sorry to jump the gun. yeah, i read your post further down in the thread i referenced, mirikon. that's what my reply (quoted above) was saying. i jumped the gun by making the first post before reading that whole thread. personally, i think appearing after the strike works a little better. it sounds like it'll be in the errata. you are, of course, technically correct about the mechanics of it though. we went through a campaign already with two ninjas in it and no one ever questioned it. everyone just treated it as the spell. it would have made a big difference what with the multiple attacks and all...
