Ok guys I want to create a "mad scientist" type character for a medieval fantasy time frame. So obviously modern classes will not help. What type of combos should I go with to make a "mad scientist" type character. This character will be a NPC in my campaign world .. so a few tweaks won't be a big deal. Just thinking a little, maybe a few levels of Loremaster.. a few levels Blood Magnus? a few levels of Artificer... what else ? Or maybe you have a different combo you want to post. Just need a little help here. Thanks.

The fleshwarper from Lords of Madness works well. REALLY good book too.

just make him an herbalist who's sniffed one too many chemicals, you know, like everyone's highschool chemistry teacher...

artificer is good i would give him a low wis it ads to the whole absent minded "Mad" theme

Ohh nice with the fleshripper... didn't think about that. Also like the herbalist.. maybe not from sniffing to much of something though.. just he needs some levels in herbalist hehe. Thank you. If anyone else has any suggestions I am still up for it.

Thanks again.

Deadlands D20 comes with a "Mad Scientist" base class and gives you plenty of rules for both weird creations and the madness side...It's designed for a gunslining setting, but if you tweak it a little..
Hope it helps! :)

If you want stark raving mad, then Derro is right up your alley. You obviously won't be biting the +2 LA to make him "sane" :D

A Derro Fleshwarper would be great. Any spellcasting class to enter Fleshwarper would work, though I suppose Sorcerer works best with the Cha boost. I think Warlock works even better in terms of flavour (as DM, use the gain familiar feat in place of the required familiar class feature).

I was thinking Gnome, they're always inventing things that
end up going "boom". And the absentminded trait, if you're
using flaws and traits. Probably a fairly low wis, to reflect a
lack of restraint in doing crazier and crazier experiments. In
real life, people tend to dislike or fear people who aren't all
there, so maybe a low charisma as well...though that might
mess with some abilities you have in mind.

As for classes...there are so many possibilities, it's hard to
say. Depends on what you want this mad scientist doing.
There's the stereotypical necromancer/Frankenstein thing
and many others to choose from.
