What do people think about a Prestige Class that combines the casting methods of preparation (Wiz) and spontaneous (Sorc)?

Not sure how this would work in a non-useless, non-overpowered way. It would suffer the same penalty/advantage of multiple low-level spells and lack of higher level spells. It would have the same penalty of dual-stat magic (INT and CHA). What benefit would be gained? just raw "theurge"-style dual caster increases? Or some kind of harmonious casting method?

A crap load of low-level spells would be my first guess.

The problem is that both classes draw from the same list of spells. Had you placed a Bard/Wizard, Paladin/Cleric or Ranger/Druid it might have had some feasibility to it(Mostly same spells, but different spell lists).

I was thinking some kind of "weaving" style, like the Geomancer's blending of divine and arcane advantages and disadvantages. Not sure where I want to go with it, though, hence posting a seriously unfinished idea here...

I think that Mystic Theurge is very powerful because it adds the casting methods of wiz to the spontaneous of sorc; maybe one of the most powerful classes in d&d; the biggest problem is that a lot of spells are equal for wizards anc cleric; but if you use the right spells you can fight like a warrior, cast like a wizard and heal like a cleric, that's very good

If you want to do it, go for it.

An Arcane Theurge, going with the naming convention of the Theurges.

+1 Arcane/+1 Arcane.

Although personally, I'd never go for it.

what about if you make a prc that blend both spellcasting styles?

that it is being to prepare the same spells of a wizard every day but cast them with the slots of a sorcerer (by example being able to prepare 4 level 1 spells and then being able to cast those spells up to 6 times a day in any combination).

Take a severe requirement like having 3 levels on sorcerer and 3 levels on wizard.

For balance, make the int to be required for learning a spell and for detemine the amount of bonus spells, and the charisma the spellīs DC

I can't see an efficient way to do it.

As the spell lists are virtually identical (wizard gets a few spells that a sorcerer can not use), there is almost no point to it. You can acheive the same flexibilities through use of magic items (scroll, staff, wand, rod).

Instead of doing it like a theurge, I'd make it a prestige class for a sorcerer character which gained seven caster levels over the 10 level progression. It would slowly allowed the sorcerer to use a spellbook to put prepared spells into his slots per day. This gives him the flexibility of a wizard, the volume of a sorcerer, but reduces the highest level spells he can cast. It would go something like this:

Master of the Arcane Arts

Prerequisites: Spellcraft 10, Knowledge (Arcane): 10, Arcane Preparation (feat), Skill Focus: Spellcraft

Hps Saves and AB as sorcerer/wizard.

Prestige Class levels stack with sorcerer levels for familiar advancement.

Level 1: Ability to Prepare 0th Level spells from a spellbook.
Level 2: Caster Level +1. Ability to Prepare 1st Level spells from a spellbook.
Level 3: Caster Level +1. Ability to Prepare 2nd Level spells from a spellbook.
Level 4: Caster Level +1. Spell Mastery Bonus Feat
Level 5: Ability to Prepare 3rd Level spells from a spellbook.
Level 6: Caster Level +1. Ability to Prepare 4th Level spells from a spellbook.
Level 7: Caster Level +1. Ability to Prepare 5th Level spells from a spellbook.
Level 8: Caster Level +1. Spell Mastery Bonus Feat
Level 9: Ability to Prepare 6th Level spells from a spellbook.
Level 10: Caster Level +1. Ability to Prepare 7th Level spells from a spellbook. Spell Mastery Bonus Feat.

I was thinking about something like that...
Calling it the "Arcanist" (as per the FR arcanist that existed during the time of Netheril). I would think that Karsus, for example, was one such arcanist.

In any case, if I were to make the prestige class, it'd be 13 levels long, require the ability to cast 2nd level spells from two seporate arcane casting classes (so we could have other combinations besides wizard/sorcerer), and would perhaps only be able to advance in the familiar progression, aside from the more obvious boosting of the relevant arcane caster levels.

In any case, I think it would work fine like that.
Perhaps even abilities that allow the sorcerer to prepare some wizard spells (with arcane preparation as the class's requirement for entry) and some added spontenaity for the wizard's spell slots.

EDIT: If anyone's interested, I could do a full write up at some point in time. (But I won't if no one is interested.)
