This is an idea that's been in my demented mind for a while now.

Basic Idea:
-good guy gets tired of seeing the bad guys always get away for what ever reason.
-S/he decides to fight fire with fire.
-deciding that the only way to defeat evil is to become evil they track dow the worst of socicety any and eliminate them,by any means necessary.
-It is important to note that they are not evil or misguided. They are only using thw weapons that evil uses on others aganst itself.

I envision a punisher style charcter who unlike the bounty huter who takes this kind of life for money and fame the corrupted hero is doing it for the greater good.

Any advice on how this type of charcter class should be put together?

This is D&D. If you go out there doing evil deeds you become evil. That's the base of alignment. And the reason why shooting people in the streets is forbidden even if lots deserve such a fate.

And the whole "eliminate by any means necessary" is exactly the kind of behaviour expected from an evil guy.

Villain:Hey mr corrupted hero I'm holding 10 tons of alchemist's fire over this orphanage if you attack me they'll blow up and kill al the children.
Corrupted hero:Sounds good to me.

One of the big diference between evil and good is that evil assumes the ends jutify the means. Good no.

It's called being an antihero, and can be done with many classes and prestige classes. The Avenging Executioner from Complete Scoundrel and Corrupt Avenger from Heroes of Horror fit what you're looking for very well, but are far from the only ways to make it work.

Seriously, what you're describing is an archetype, not a skill set - and thus not any specific class.

Ignore this.
