Can you get armor for your animal companion (if it's of reasonable shape). I was just thinking of Hide or Leather for my wolf (My character is Rgr4). Otherwise, the animal gets incapacitated easily with an AC of 14. I expected it to be a trick under the skill description, but it's not there. It doesn't say you need to train a horse to use barding, so would a combat-trained wolf be okay with similar barding?

There is the Armor trick in Masters of the Wild that allowed animal companions to accept barding. Depending on your DM this may or may not be good enough for the companion to be effective in armor. Your DM may also require that the companion take the Armor proficiency feats so it doesn't take the armor check penality (ACP) to attack rolls. For Leather or Masterwork Studded Leather there isn't a problem since the ACP is 0.

He's been a pretty strict 3.5 DM so far, but we'll see what he says about something from The EVIL3.0 rules, like MoTW.

And here's one more question. When figuring the level for Ranger Animal Companion, does one round up or down? I hope up, because otherwise fifth level is boring.

Well, I don't know about wearing armor...

But *here* (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031125a) is a list of all the slots an animal can wear... you can use magic items in those slots to boost your animal's AC.

He can wear an Amulet of Natural Armor, Bracers of Armor, a Ring of Protection, etc. Maybe your DM would even let you get some Mittens of Dex (instead of Gloves) for him. :)

My DM is also strict 3.5, however, the 3.5 'Handle Animal' skill says

Possible tricks (and their associated DCs) include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following.

So there is plenty of wiggle room to add the 'wear armour' trick if required.
