Animal Companion Carrying Capacity??? [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-18-04, 04:59 PM I'm new with this druid animal companion thing, so bear with me, here.

Do animal companions (i.e. WOLF) have a carying capacity, and if so, what is it?

02-19-04, 11:14 AM I have no idea, but if it could carry stuff, it would probably be around the same as a riding dog, and you would have to buy a pack saddle for it. ASSUMING that it will carry anything. It may get mad about you using it as a packhorse and just leave.:behold:

But because the wolf is a quadruped it gets a bonus, in this case x3, so: >150 light >300 med >450 Heavy.

Thats is only true if the wolfs str is 13. These numbers go up as you level so, you just have to figure it out as you go using the table in the PHB. If it give enlarged then the wieght it can carry also goes up.

02-19-04, 01:16 PM An average wolf's STR is indeed 13, but a normal wolf is medium-size. So, the multiplier should be x1.5, not x3 (which is for large quadrupeds).

02-20-04, 11:22 AM You would probably need a pack saddle, so that it can carry stuff. I dont think it can attack with a pack saddle on. The wolf wont leave unless the DM makes it, so be nice to your wolf :D. And an exotic saddle is for non-animals beasts such as a Roc or a Dragon.
