| Zelle08-14-06, 12:50 PM | My animal companion bit the dust last night. Horribly cleaved in half by an ogre. And my druid is pretty much in shock, covered in blood, and holding her 24 hour vigil over the corpse. Seeing as I had a wolf, and party members and I butted heads about my buying a mount (I could do the whole "free the nag to a better life after I've rescued it" thing, or the "willing friend who's helping me" thing, but I find it hard to justify "normal" mount use." I thought maybe I'd solve it by my new companion being ridable. Part of the reason being that I had read a few places in passing on the boards over the weekend that the heavy warhorse is one of the best companions a druid can get at low levels (I'm level 3.) My DM however says that the feat allows a heavy or light horse, and that that does not include the warhorse. He's most likely correct, but I'd like to verify that that option is out according to the rules before ruling it out completely. If it's not included, what else is viable for front-lining? He's pushing me to get a riding dog, but that doens't sit well with me for flavor reasons. Our Barbarian/cleric bit the dust at the same time as the wolf, and he's rerolling a wizard (so we'll be cleric, druid, wizard, rogue) so the companion needs to be able to be up at the front and not get immediately clobbered. Especially since the rogue spends most of his time trying to make hide checks around corners way in the back so he can get a ranged sneak attack off every other round. |
