Animal Companion question [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-17-08, 11:54 AM Hey, I was browsing through the MMII, and I got to wondering. Would a Corollax (Tiny Magical Beast) be appropriate for a Druid/Ranger Animal Companion? I ask because it specifically states in the creature's entry that they are social creatures, and anyone can convince them to travel with them with a successful Handle Animal check, and Druids and Rangers excel at Handle Animal stuff.

Agreed. But I do believe there are ACF's that allow specific magical beast to become animal companion and can be used as such. For example, planar ranger's (UA) animal companion can acquire the celestial or fiendish template. However, a celestial or fiendish creature is a magical beast even if the base creature is an animal.

Therefore, as long as the creature in question isn't going to overpower the game and makes logical sense, the DM could rule it as such.
