| Grimmoloth05-13-07, 10:29 AM | As Animal Companions gain HD do they increase in size as stated in their description? Let say I'm a 11th level Druid and I have a Dire Bat companion. Its HD equal a total of 8 (dire bat starts with 4 plus 4 bonus HD.) Which according to the book a 5-12 HD dire bat is huge. I know that is in there for advancement for creatures so DMs can pump them up but is it also for creature growth? So what I'm asking is if a creature gains HD will it increase in size? Thanks in advance.:P |

THey gain HD but are niot unnaturally versions of the animal: they are normal versions enhanced by your bond. The size change is for unnaturally tougher ones. | Grimmoloth05-13-07, 05:16 PM | Oh.:( Thanks. |
| Garonak05-13-07, 05:16 PM | Another way to explain it is that the animal companion doesn't tak lvls in Animal, but in Animal Companion. |
| NinjaPenguin05-13-07, 09:10 PM | I have always played (without ever having read the FAQ) that increased HD from animal companion bonuses -does- increase size. Its never done anything broken to the game, and I personally like it. So, assuming the FAQ is treated as RAW (which seems reasonable), then no, it doesn't work. But I've found that there isn't a big deal in ruling that it does anyway. YMMV. |
