I was wondering, you have a character, a level 5 ranger/level 5 paladin. Is it possible that his horse animal companion becomes his special mount at the same time? And do the bonusses for the things stack?

I would say no, because a paladin's mount is a magical beast and not an animal. Therefore it can't be an animal companion.

I would allow him to 'upgrade' his animal companion to be his special mount, if he so desired. But it would at the same time cease to be, and lose all bonuses derived from being, his animal companion. No sense requiring someone to not have their trusted ally in the position they want, but there's no basis for combining the two in the rules.

yeah thats what I thought. But I could ask the DM if my animal companion horse could become my special mount. And thus losing all animal companion bonusses. its more that I want the same horse at my sight all the time

Forgive my ignorance, but how do you have an druidic animal companion if you're lawful good? Don't you lose that class ability whne you become no longer neutral?

he is a ranger.

rangers get animal companions much like the druids do.

From the 3.5 SRD

Animal Companion (Ex): At 4th level, a ranger gains an animal companion selected from the following list: badger, camel, dire rat, dog, riding dog, eagle, hawk, horse (light or heavy), owl, pony, snake (Small or Medium viper), or wolf. If the campaign takes place wholly or partly in an aquatic environment, the following creatures may be added to the ranger’s list of options: crocodile, porpoise, Medium shark, and squid. This animal is a loyal companion that accompanies the ranger on his adventures as appropriate for its kind.

This ability functions like the druid ability of the same name, except that the ranger’s effective druid level is one-half his ranger level. A ranger may select from the alternative lists of animal companions just as a druid can, though again his effective druid level is half his ranger level. Like a druid, a ranger cannot select an alternative animal if the choice would reduce his effective druid level below 1st.

good question about the allignment, I'll explain: its about this prestige class from a dragon issue, "the ranger knight of furyondy", he is sort of a ranger/cavalier and he gains both animal companion (from the ranger levels to qualifiy for the class) and special mount (from the prestige class itself)
