An article on familiars (http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20050913a) states that a wizard/sorcerer can share any type of spell with his familiar, so I would say the same counts for the animal companion.Do you agree? |
| LordPendragon07-13-06, 08:38 AM | Sounds like it makes sense to me |
| Kimokeo07-13-06, 12:35 PM | That's how I read the rule. That's why a Ranger or Druid should take a Large companion. This way, Alter Self (when it is used by your companion) can become a Huge companion - there's a lot of neat creatures to choose from. Makes the Horse companion really cool. |

At the druid’s option, she may have any spell (but not any spell-like ability) she casts upon herself also affect her animal companion. Alter Self is not on the Druid spell list. A Thousand Faces is a Druid supernatural ability that functions like Alter Self. How is the Druid supposed to use Alter Self on his animal companion? |

The thread is about sharing arcane spells with your animal companion. In example, mage armor is very valuable to both caster and horse as long as you're mounted (within 5ft). |
| benstundze07-14-06, 01:10 PM | the best animal companion iv ever had is a kolbolt riding dog and all he did was hid behind a rock or tree and then the barb crashed into the tree and squished him :weep: but some how im still the most valuable player in the party :D :D so i have no sharing spells with my animal companion experience sarry :P |
| MaximumHavoc07-14-06, 06:09 PM | What about a spell effect from a magic item? Can it be shared with an animal companion? |
| lasseram07-15-06, 07:46 AM | What about a spell effect from a magic item? Can it be shared with an animal companion? Not according to the same article (http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20050913a) I listed in the original post: "The master cannot share spell-like abilities or supernatural abilities, nor can the master and familiar share effects from magic items." But I read this as concerning magic items with permanent effects, i.e. cloak of protection and not spell cast by wands/scrolls/etc. A scroll of mage armor would, IMO, affect the familiar/animal companion as well as the caster. |

| Rowan_Whispercloak07-15-06, 08:30 AM | It wouldn't hurt as much if you are going for the Arcane Hieophant prestige class out of Races of the Wild and then you animal companion becomes your familiar |
