I want to make a character using the Ultimate Adventurer (from the Ultimate Classes that are on these boards) with my base classes for it being Ultimate Necromancer and Dread Necromancer Dread Necromancer possesses an ability that reads: "Undead Mastery: All undead creatures created by the Dread Necromancer gain ... ... ... In addition, when a Dread Necromancer uses the animate dead spell to create undead she may control 4 + her charisma bonus worth of hit die of undead per caster level ..." Ultimate Necromancer possess 2 abilities, which read: "Lord of the Dead (Ex): All undead created by the necromancer fall automatically under his control, unless that would make him control more undead than he can. He also controls undead as if he had 2 more necromancer levels." and "Army of the Dead (Su): At 16th level, as long as the legion is concentrating, he can control ten times the number of undead he otherwise could." Now my problem is, I dont know how they work together for the purposes of determining the amount of undead that can be controlled. I believe the Dread Necromancer's ability only works when you cast Animate Dead as a Dread Necromancer, and that the same type of thing applies for Lord of the Dead as an Ultimate Necromancer. However, Army of the Dead says nothing about casting the spell, just that the number you can control is increased by a factor of 10. A similar problem arrises with Rod of Undead Control. They dont say anything about what occurs you have multiple forms of access to the spell. Does anyone want to offer some clarification for me? For those requesting, here is link to the Ultimate Necromancer - http://www.liquidmateria.info/wiki/Ultimate_Necromancer |

The ultimate classes were an attempt at rebalancing, they are significantly more powerful than their non-ultimate counterparts. Since this is one class, you don't have to take them seperately, the RAW allows you to keep them. Here's how i would do it: Undead mastery allows you (4+charisma) times caster level Lord of the dead increases caster level by two Army of the dead increases this to (40+charisma) times (caster level +2) You don't multiply the charisma, because you don't do that with the rod of undead mastery, you multiply the base number. Though if you used the rod, it would increase to (44+charisma), not 80 plus cha. Regardless, that's a lot of undead. Did your dm really think this through? |
