| Shrou07-07-03, 10:16 PM | This is my prestige class based off the unarmed technique used by both Anji and Sanosuke Sagara in the Anime Rurouni Kenshin. It was intended for Monks and Fighters, however, nearly any class that meets the requirements could enter. However, it is rare for spellcasters to join this prestige class. Practioner of the Futae No Kiwami Requirements- +7 BAB, Feats-Improved Unarmed Strike(or monk ability), Power Attack, and Eagle Claw Strike. Special:You must find a teacher that has lvls in this prestige class to take this prestige class and you must spend time practicing the techniques.(Time needed to learn is decided by the DM.) BAB-As a Fighter Saves-Good=Fort and Ref,Bad=Will Skills per lvl-4+int Skill List-Balance,Climb,Concentration,Intimidate,J ump,Listen,Spot,Swim. 1-Futae No Kiwami,Monk Damage Progression 2-Fist's of Iron 3-Improved Power Attack 4-Reverse Futae No Kiwami 5-Improved Fist's of Iron 6-Channel Futae No Kiwami 7- 8-Sanjuu No Kiwami 9-Negate Attack 10-Master of the Futae No Kiwami Monk Damage Progression-This Prestige class has a unarmed damge of a monk of equvilent level. Refer to page 38 of the player's handbook. This stacks with monk levels to determine the unarmed damge, but not for increased speed, unarmored ac, etc, Futae No Kiwami(Ex)-To the untrained eye, this looks like a very strong punch. However, there is much more to it then it seems. The first step is to hit the objects with your finger joints, breaking down resistance. Then you perform a second punch within miliseconds of the first with your knuckles. Meeting little resistance, it usually obliterates the object. In game terms, it is a standard action to do a Futae No Kiwami. It acts like a unarmed attack, except as follows. The attack ignores all DR and hardness. You also act like you are using a two handed weapon, doing 1.5 x str to damge instead of normal. Also the critical threat range is doubled which stacks with Improved Critical but not with magical enhancements.(You can use this in conjunction with Eagle Claw Strike.) Fist's of Iron-The User of the Futae No Kiwami gets this feat for free at 2nd level. It acts like tthe feat found on page 62 of the Oriental Adventures Book. Improved Power Attack-At 3rd level, you get 1.5 the amount you sacrificed off your attack roll to damage when using Power Attack. You can only use this bounus with your unarmed Attack. (example-subtract 2 from attack roll, get 3 extra damge, subtract 5 from thje attack roll, get 7 extra to damage, etc) Reverse Futae No Kiwami(Ex)-At 4th level, the character can use the force of his own Futae No Kiwami to to soften the blow of another Futae No Kiwami. If somebody attacks you with the Futae No Kiwami and hits you, you can make a Reflex check(DC 20+the fists enhancement bonus). If you succeed, roll damage as if you used the Futae No Kiwami. Subtract that damage from the opponents damage and then you take the rest as normal(if any got through). This takes up an attack of opportunity for that round.(Also, note that you can block the Sanjuu No Kiwami with this ability as well)(Also note that you must make the reflex check for every attack, so if your opponent gets multiple Futae No Kiwami's in a round, you must make a Reflex Check for all of them) Improved Fist's of Iron-At 5th level, the amount of times that you can use the feat Fist's of Iron increases to 3+ (Wisdom mod x 1.5) Channel Futae No Kiwami(Ex)-You may use a bladed weapon to channel the force of the Futae No Kiwami through the ground, allowing you to make a ranged Futae No Kiwami. This takes a standard action and can effect any enemies within 60 ft. This uses your ranged attack bonus, but otherwise is exactly the same as the Futae No Kiwami. You must have a slashing weapon to use this ability. Sanjuu No Kiwami(Ex)-This attack is the same as the Futae No Kiwami, except you open your fist after performing the Futae No Kiwami, allowing you turn all the power onto the opponent. This acts as the Futae No Kiwami, except as follows. Instead of doing 1.5 x str to damage, you do 2 x str to damage, and if you score a critical hit, you do x3 damage instead of x2. Negate Attack(Ex)-You may now not only stop other Futae No Kiwami's but any attack(melee or ranged) by using the force of the Futae No Kiwami to counter their force. You must make a Reflex Save, but unless it is a Futae No Kiwami(or Sanjuu No Kiwami) the Reflex Save is 25+the weapons enhancement bonus. If you succeed, roll damage as Reverse Futae No Kiwami and subtract it from their damage. This uses up an attack of opportunity just like Reverse Futae No Kiwami. All rules that apply to Reverse Futae No Kiwami apply to Negate attack as well. Master of the Futae No Kiwami(Ex)-At 10th level, the character masters the art of the Futae No Kiwami, allowing him to use it through his arms, legs, hands and a headbutt. In Game terms this allows the character to combine the Futae No Kiwami with his Full Attack. All of his unarmed attacks have the properties of the Futae No Kiwami, thus they all bypass DR and Hardness, all act as if being used two handed, and all their crit ranges double(which stacks with Improved Critical but not magical enhancements.) | Jancarius07-08-03, 03:17 AM | I like it. Essentially Anji, I assume, with Sano being a Lvl 1 Practicioner? |
| Shrou07-12-03, 06:20 PM | Sano wouldn't be quite high, but I think, since he did Negate Anji's Futae No Kiwami I think he Might be lvl 4 in this prestige class.(below you will notice I made him a lvl 8 practioner. That is because it was Sanosuke that devised the Sanjuu No Kiwami during his fight with Anji. But I don't believe he has mastered it yet.) |
| Shrou07-13-03, 08:24 PM | Well, just for the fun of it I decided to try to make Sanosuke and post it here. It probaly is a pritty bad representation of him but it's the best I can do. Sagara Sanosuke:Human Fighter 8/Practioner of the Futae No Kiwami 8(CR 16) HD-14D10+70, hp 138, Init-+7, Atk+23/+19 melee Unarmed(1D10+9/19-20 x2),Sanjuu No Kiwami +23 melee(1D10+11/17-20 x3) Alignment-Chaotic Good Stats-str-22, dex-17, con-20, int-10, wis-14, cha-12 Saving Throws-Fort-+17, Ref-+11, Will-+8 Feats-Exotic Weapon Prof(Zambatou),Improved Unarmed Strike, Power Attack,Sunder,Wpn Focus(Zambatou),Wpn Focus(unarmed),Wpn Specilization(Zambatou),Eagle Claw Strike,Improved Initiative,Wpn Specilization(unarmed),Fist's of Iron,Improved Critical(unarmed),Combat Reflexes,Roundabout Kick Magical equipment-Headband of Ogre Strength(+2) and Health(+2) |

| prettz00709-27-03, 04:32 PM | Okay, first interesting class and I'll take it one step at a time. -First why does this class get the Ride skill, and why not the concentration skill that seems kind of important. -Reverse Futae No Kiwami and Negate Attack create reflex saves were none were. Are they compatible with Evasion and Improved Evasion because that makes the abilities too powerful. -Futae No Kiwami is too powerful for what is basically a 8th level ability. It ignores DR, does str x1.5 damge and increses the threat range? That is to powerful, perphaps if it did one of these abilities at 1st a second at 3rd and the last at 5th. Plus what happens when the character gets the Epic Feat keen strike it stacks with that as well, right. -Improved Power Attack is nice and good but written alittle complicated why not merely say that the damage done is 1.5 times greater (rounded down) than the attack bonus subtracted. Although I probably wrote it confusing as well hopefully you get the idea. -Reverse Futae No Kiwami is good but favor wise I must ask? Didn't Sano pioneer that ability in the fight with Anji? I mean if memory serves Anji the master couldn't use it until after Sano used it in a fight. Abilities wise I have to say it is kinda weak it is only useful if you fight againist others who use the Futae No Kiwami and that might never happen. Perjhaps adding that if the user may give up an attack in order to use this ability againist a normal non-magical attack. -Sanjuu No Kiwami is nice but does it do the users unarmed attack as damage or the weapons or something else. -Negate Attack is great I like it but it seems to easy to do. Not when you first get it but continuing on to Epic levels the highest DC your going to have is about a 35. Now a d20 +Epic Reflex Save should be able to generally always overcome that. -Master of the Futae No Kiwami again like Futae No Kiwami I think it is to powerful. I think here what bothers me is it automactically bypass all DR and can be used in a standard attack. As I said before all in all I think it is a great class with an interesting concept. |
| Connie the Barbarian09-27-03, 06:22 PM | I dont think its that overpowered. Powerful yes, overpowered no. 2 things you have to realize 1. To do a Futae No Kiwami (before level 10) the practitioner has to give up her multiple attacks, and do just 1 attack that passes by DR. Just like a spell or performing Manyshot this is a standard action. If it didnt go through DR it would be pretty useless, because its only 1 attack each round untill you hit level 10. 2. You have to be at least a 7th level fighter or a 10th level monk to take this PrC. Thinking along those lines you have to realize youll be level 17-20 (and thats if you do have a nice BAB) to get Master of the Futae No Kiwami. The Futae No Kiwami is also much less powerful then any spells that one could cast at that level, another reason why i dont think its that powerful. Although i would put a little rule in there about only being able to use 1 Futae No Kiwami in a round. I like this one great job Shrou |
| Shrou09-27-03, 10:38 PM | Thanks for the replies everyone. Here's some answers to some of your questions. 1-Negate Futae No Kiwami does not work with Evasion or Improved Evasion. It was never intended to and I though it didn't work under the rules anyway. Well anyway that's cleared up. 2-Yah, I guess I could put Improved Power Attack like that, if you feel it will be more easily understood than i'll change it. 3-Sano pioneered the Sanjuu No Kiwami, it was Anji who used the Negate Futae No Kiwami ability first. 4-Unless the character is a high level monk they can't get Keen Fists because it requires the ability Ki Strike, which this prc doesn't have. 5-If anyone who has watched that episode would like to help me change the Sanjuu No Kiwami(I don't like the ability currently), I could really use some help. 6-The Futae No Kiwami and Master of the Futae No Kiwami are really not that much better than a greatsword unless you have levels in monk, in which case you lose out on a lot of your abilities to get this prc. Plus Master of the Futae No Kiwami can't be got until 17th lvl at minium, and the ability can't rivel Gate or Miracle. |

| Shrou10-01-03, 08:30 PM | Bump Comments, Anyone? |
| arrisnyte10-02-03, 01:22 AM | I LOVE the PrC as it stands, but one minor question..... What are its hit die? I tried a guess from the Sanosuke NPC stat block, but it has 16 class levels and 14 HD, so I can't tell if its simply short 2 Hit Die (a typo?) and the Practitioner has D10, or if he's got special bonus hit dice. |
| Deladrion Garthin10-02-03, 11:04 AM | Very cool PrC :) The standard action Futae No Kiwami isn't so bad since you deal 1.5 you strength mod, as though with a two handed weapon, which means you double the Powerattack benefit. That's the balancing thing, I think, since performing only a single attack each round (albeit an effective one) would generally force a front-line adventurer into early retirement, if not an early grave. Very cool interpretation of the ability. |
| Shrou10-04-03, 09:56 AM | The Hit Die for the Practioner is a D8. Ignore the example character, as you noticed it is flawed in several diffrent ways. |
| Wolfgaidin03-23-04, 08:32 PM | I like this! It is a well thought out PrC and follows the anime quite well. I'll look at the anime again and see if I can't figure out any ideas for the Sanjuu No Kiwami. I'd also like to see your thoughts on my PrC the Hiten Mitsurugi-ryu Master. It's obviously based around Kenshin's style. If you do a forum search for 'ruroni kenshin hiten mitsurugi' you'll be able to find it. Thanks and I'll be using your PrC! :D |
| arrisnyte03-23-04, 10:51 PM | I'd also like to see your thoughts on my PrC the Hiten Mitsurugi-ryu Master. It's obviously based around Kenshin's style Actually (And this is just my super-humble opinion) I find that trying to fit everything of Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu into a 10 level PrC is kind of difficult. So instead, using the existing ones as a template, I adapted a sort of Sword Style. Just like a Monk's Unarmed Martial Arts Style, but focused in a weapon. In this manner, you don't have to deal with cramming everything into 10 levels and having any level become unbalanced (Too many abilities; an ability too strong). Instead, I worked on a PrC that's 10 levels, and more geared towards the revolutionary assassin that Kenshin and a few other's were in the OVAs. the Manslayer (::ducks any flames:: I Know! I Know! But the dubbed name does sound better as a PrC name) helps fill in some abilities Kenshin had that were not part of Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu. Right now, to "Crash Test" how they mesh, I'm building from Level 1 up a Samurai/Manslayer/Iaijutsu Master while taking feats to qualify for the 4 Mastery Levels of Hiten Mitsurugi. If it works, I'll be sure to post them both. |
