I tried to incorporate more elements of the samurai, both historical and mythical. The Ki blade class feature (copied from the monk) simulates the ability to cut through anything. Bear in mind that this ability is less powerful than Ki Strike, since it's fairly easy to get a +1 axiomatic adamantine katana (compared to +1 axiomatic adamantine fists at least) The TWF abilities are still inferior to the ranger's, but they get a small boost with All As One. Kishuu strike simulates the famous one-strike kill - remember that this class also gets Improved Initiative Oh, and for those who complain "samurai mostly used naginata", etc, this class is based on the Ni Ten Ichi Ryu style. I also remind you that D&D is all about stereotypes. As RAW except as below: 1 Daisho proficiency, Iaijutsu Master 2 Two swords as one 3 Ki blade (magic), Kishuu strike +1d4 4 All as one 5 Kiai smite 1/day 6 Staredown, Kishuu strike +2d4 7 Improved Initiative 8 Joukyuu Iaijutsu Master 9 Improved two swords as one, Kishuu strike +3d4 10 Kiai smite 2/day 11 Ki blade (lawful) 12 Mass Staredown, Kishuu strike +4d4 13 Greater two swords as one 14 Flick of the Wrist 15 Kiai smite 3/day, Kishuu strike +5d4 16 Improved Staredown, Ki blade (adamantine) 17 - 18 Kishuu strike +6d4 19 - 20 Kiai smite 4/day, Frightful presence Special Weapons: Katana, Wakizashi, Nodachi (Treat Nodachi as Masterwork Fullblades) Kishuu strike: This ability functions as Sneak Attack, dealing extra damage to flat-footed opponents, except that the opponent must still be aware of the attack. Joukyuu Iaijutsu Master (Ex): At 8th level, a samurai may treat katana and nodachi as light weapons for the purposes of special attacks that use light weapons. All as one: The benefits from any feats that apply to one special samurai weapon (such as Weapon Focus) applies to all of them. The bonuses from multiple feats of the same name do not stack. Ki Blade (Su): At 3rd level, a samurai’s attacks are empowered with ki. His attacks with a special samurai weapon are treated as magic weapons for the purpose of dealing damage to creatures with damage reduction. Ki strike improves with the character’s samurai level. At 11th level, his attacks are also treated as lawful weapons for the purpose of dealing damage to creatures with damage reduction. At 16th level, his attacks are treated as adamantine weapons for the purpose of dealing damage to creatures with damage reduction and bypassing hardness. Flick of the Wrist: At 14th level, a samurai gains Flick of the Wrist as a bonus feat |
| teshen12-19-06, 06:04 PM | It's not a bad attempt as far as attempts go... but there have been several builds that do a good job at emulating a samurai without the need of a special class... and the Oriental adventures book also does a good job at making a base samurai that can fit different samurai of different periods... especially if you have the Dragon magazine with the 3.5 update for oriental adventures... the one with the ninja base class in it (I can't remember the number). So... not to be too much of a downer her but good job at reinventing the wheel. And why focus on the two heavens style... well, the complete warrior does that too... but you have a lot of directions you could go? |
