| Insane Pixie04-05-05, 12:03 PM | The Anubite Warriors are a fearsome order, specializing in leaping into battle onto their opponents. Jackal-like in appearance, they could strike despair into the hearts of the most righteous knights. An Anubite Warrior's favored weapon is the sickle, and they will gladly show that to any foe they may face. They strike quickly and fiercely; not fond of leaving survivors. All Anubite Warriors worship Anubis, a lesser god often linked with death. Anubis' favored weapon is the sickle, and the domains he is associated with are Death, Evil, Strength, and War. Alignment : Any non-good. Hit Die: d8. Class Skills The ranger’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Climb (Str), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Handle Animal (Cha), Heal (Wis), Hide (Dex), Intimidate (Cha), Jump (Str), Knowledge (dungeoneering) (Int), Knowledge (geography) (Int), Knowledge (nature) (Int), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Profession (Wis), Ride (Dex), Search (Int), Spot (Wis), Survival (Wis), Swim (Str), and Use Rope (Dex). Skill Points at 1st Level: (4 + Int modifier) x 4. Skill Points at Each Additional Level: 4 + Int modifier. Class Features All of the following are class features of the Anubite Warrior. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Anubite warriors are proficient with the club, crossbow (light), dagger, javelin, kama, nunchaku, quarterstaff, sickle and sling. Anubite Warriors are not proficient with any armor. When wearing armor, using a heavy shield, or carrying a medium or heavy load, a Anubite Warrior loses her AC bonus, as well as his desert run ability. AC Bonus (Ex): When unarmored and unencumbered, the Anubite Warrior adds his Wisdom bonus (if any) to his AC. In addition, an Anubite Warrior gains a +1 bonus to AC at 5th level. This bonus increases by 1 for every five Anubite Warrior levels thereafter (+2 at 10th, +3 at 15th, and +4 at 20th level). These bonuses to AC apply even against touch attacks or when the Anubite Warrior is flat-footed. He loses these bonuses when he is immobilized or helpless, when he wears any armor, when he carries a heavy shield, or when he carries a medium or heavy load. Leap (Ex): At first level, an Anubite Warrior gains a +30 bonus to all Jump checks, granted to them by their god Anubis. Weapon Focus: At first level, an Anubite Warrior gains this feat for free. Leap Attack: On his turn, as a full-round action, an Anubite Warrior can decide to make a leap attack attempt, effectively jumping on and attacking his foe. An Anubite Warrior can only make a number of leap attacks per day equal to half his Anubite Warrior class levels. The Anubite Warrior makes a Jump check against his foe’s opposing Tumble check. (Note: When making this Jump check, and Anubite Warrior does not add his bonus from the Leap ability, however, he does add in this bonus when determining how far he can jump.) If the Anubite Warrior’s Jump result is higher than his foe’s Tumble check, than he has succeeded on jumping high into the air, ready to come down on his foe. The Anubite Warrior then makes a normal attack roll to determine if he successfully attacks his opponent. If he successfully strikes his opponent, he can make a full-attack action, and extra damage is dealt. However, if he fails either his Jump check or his attack roll, he immediately provokes an attack of opportunity, and lands prone in any square adjacent to his opponent. This extra damage is 1d6 at 1st level, and it increases by 1d6 every two Anubite Warrior levels thereafter. Should the Anubite Warrior score a critical hit with a leap attack, this extra damage is not multiplied. With a sap (blackjack) or an unarmed strike, an Anubite Warrior can make a leap attack that deals nonlethal damage instead of lethal damage. He cannot use a weapon that deals lethal damage to deal nonlethal damage in a leap attack, not even with the usual –4 penalty. An Anubite Warrior can leap attack only living creatures with discernible anatomies—undead, constructs, oozes, plants, and incorporeal creatures lack vital areas to attack. Any creature that is immune to critical hits is not vulnerable to sneak attacks. The Anubite Warrior must be able to see the target well enough to pick out a vital spot and must be able to reach such a spot. An Anubite Warrior cannot leap attack while striking a creature with concealment or striking the limbs of a creature whose vitals are beyond reach. Two-Weapon Fighting (Ex): At second level, an Anubite Warrior gains this feat for free, even if he would not normally meet the prerequisites. The benefits of this feat only apply when the Anubite Warrior is wielding sickles. Mask of the Jackal: At second level, an Anubite Warrior gains the Mask of the Jackal, a minor magical item that provides a bonus to all Intimidate checks made by the Anubite Warrior. This bonus is equal to 1/2 the Anubite Warriors class levels. Each Anubite Warrior’s mask is different adorned than others; the mask does not provide a bonus to Disguise checks. At 9th level, the Anubite Warrior becomes much like his god. His mask melds into his form, and he gains a feral, dog-like appearance, accompanied by a bite attack appropriate for his size. (Note: When the mask is worn by any non-Anubite Warrior, it functions as a normal mask.) Weapon Specialization (Sickle): At fourth level, an Anubite Warrior gains this feat for free, even if he would not normally meet the prerequisites. Greater Weapon Focus (Sickle): At eighth level, an Anubite Warrior gains this feat for free, even if he would not normally meet the prerequisites. Desert Run: At eighth level, the Anubite Warrior gains a speed bonus equal to his Dexterity modifier x 5 when wearing no armor (and not carrying a medium or heavy load). This bonus is to his base land speed, before modifiers such as taking the double move action are figured in. Greater Weapon Specialization (Sickle): At twelfth level, an Anubite Warrior gains Greater Weapon Specialization (Sickle) as a bonus feat, even if he would not normally meet the prerequisites. |

| Need_A_Life04-05-05, 01:36 PM | You have forgotten a Jedi reference in AC bonus. It seems balanced after a casual read-through, I like the Jackal mask but I was scared when I read this: At 9th level, the Anubite Warrior becomes much like his god But it turned out to be nothing but flavor text. phew! I like it, but personally I wouldn't use it. |

| scwolf04-05-05, 02:56 PM | And for those of you who work at the Department of Redundancy Department, try giving some levels in this class to the Jackal Lord from MM3. |
| Steel Dragon04-05-05, 03:11 PM | So basically, we've got a Fighter with a Rogue's Sneak attack (except when jumping), the Core Fighter Special Feats, Druidic Weapon List, and Tons of Skill Points. That's ontop of 2 Good Saves, and a Good BAB. Pros: • Free Weapon Focus/Specialization/Greater Focus/Greater Specialization. (Feats you normally NEED to be a Fighter For) • 2 Good Saves (Fortitute/Reflex) • d10 HP • Jumping Attack • Bonus to Intimidation (Mask) • Extra Attack (Eventually...Bite) • Extra Damage (Jump Attack) • Epic bonus to Jump • Speed Bonus • Two-Weapon Fighting Feat Tree • AC Bonus • Excellent Skills Cons: • 1 Poor Save (Will) • No Armor Prof • Limited Weapon Selection • Must be able to Jump in order to gain extra Damage • Non-Good Alignment Restriction • Weapon Feats are limited to single weapon • Two Weapon Fighting limited to single weapon • Must stay light to gain fast movement. Unfortunately, I think You've got things a little one-sided and need some readjustment: • d8 for HP. • Lower BAB to Average (as Cleric). • Lower Skills to +4. • Lower Fort to Poor, but give bonus's to survivng in the desert. • Change leap from a +30 to a max of +10. Perhaps have it slowly increase as they gain levels. |
| Need_A_Life04-05-05, 03:14 PM | :embarrass Actually I didn't read Leaping Attack... And I didn't realize that is was full BAB... :embarrass |
| MaverickWolf04-05-05, 03:44 PM | I have two words to describe this class: Prestige Class. Any group of warriors specifically dedicated to a single god is meant for a prestige class, not a base class. Leap Attack is also ridiculous. It'd be a neat ability without the extra damage, but the extra damage sends it over the top, especially since it apparently applies to all attacks and allows a full-round of attacks when used. I'd be gald to spend a full-round action to deal that much damage. |
| Insane Pixie04-05-05, 04:02 PM | And for those of you who work at the Department of Redundancy Department, try giving some levels in this class to the Jackal Lord from MM3. I don't have the MMIII, TYVM. Leap attack only applies when flat-footed, or denied Dex bonus. Will add that in. This is not going to become a PrC. Leap is not going to be reduced to +10. BAB will stay the same. |
| Gemstone04-05-05, 04:41 PM | Hmm... Age of Mythology anyone? ;) |
| Shlik04-05-05, 05:13 PM | Ok, I think you should slow down the "leap attack" progression. I mean, 10d6 with full bab is too much. How about changing things a bit? Right: - Saves seem ok, warrior/agile type screams fortitude/reflex saves. - Change the twf to like the Ranger's progression - Maybe a bit.. too skillful? 4+ seems like the max. - Either leave the weapon specialisation to the fighter, just giving weapon focus at lvl 1, or make it 1/7/13/19 with medium bab - Leap +1/lvl? - Leap attack.. look either to the "pounce" and give it - d8 - speed seriously lowered.. you could easily get to 36.. thus +13 modifier granting +75 land speed! Give 10 every so often, if at all. This class gives too much already. |
| Insane Pixie04-05-05, 05:21 PM | Hmm... Age of Mythology anyone? ;) You have found my inspiration. I almost found myself making an Avenger... |

The Anubite jumped really freaking high; I went gentle giving it Leap. Desert run is just a renamed Shadow run, and uses Dex modifier instead Con. The Anubite's special attack was a HIIIIIIIIIIIIGH jump that included landing and slashing. I'll do the d8 and +4 skill points though. |
| Gemstone04-05-05, 05:39 PM | You could also do: Hersir and Avenger |
| Insane Pixie04-05-05, 05:47 PM | You could also do: Hersir and Avenger ... I shall! :fight!: |
| Lusiphur04-05-05, 05:56 PM | Okay, as you seem unmoving on the jump ability, what say you to this? Make the jump attack really high and big and flashy. thats fine. BUT, you should limit it to a certain number of times per day. This is what me and my brother did with a homebrew Dragoon character. Big flashy jumps, but not all the time. that limits its power, hence making it balanced (the key phrase here) but still gives you the feel and flavor you want. |

Cheers to you for coming up with that! Numbers of attempts per day equal to half of Anubite Warrior class levels sounds good... |
| scwolf04-06-05, 04:12 AM | I don't have the MMIII, TYVM. It's ok, I wasn't saying that this class is a carbon copy of that particular monster anyway. I was just trying to make a funny. Also, I was wrong on my previous post, it's actually in Fiend Folio. In fact I looked it up, and the Fiend Folio Jackal Lord isn't particularly combat oriented, so giving class levels of Anubite Warrior to one would be a good way of rounding one out. And for all the Age of Mythology inspiration in this thread, I'd feel remiss if I didn't point out another good font for inspiration: The Mummy Returns. |
| Gemstone04-06-05, 04:48 AM | ... I shall! :fight!: Why stop there? We could add Son of Osiris aswell! Heck, we can build an entire progression for most of the epic and heroic beings from there ^^ |
| Arkidisey04-07-05, 05:27 PM | did u get The Domains for Anubis from Dieties and demigods, or did u make them up or get them from a game? cuz Anubis is not super evil as u describe him OH YES AND check out my class at New Dragon Related Classes: Dragon Tamer, TELL ME WHAT YA THINK! |
| Insane Pixie04-07-05, 05:35 PM | Maybe if you gave us a link? |
| Kaligrad04-07-05, 06:23 PM | Countering an improved jump attack with reflex is defenitely a good way to NEVER LOSE EVER. Let's see: discounting additional modifiers, at tenth level the warrior will have a +13 modifier to his jump. A person with a good reflex save will be able to counter it with a +6. I realize, of course, that that part of the power does not in itself deal damage, but the saving throws are not meant to counter skills. It would be better to use either the target's AC, or even the variable DC for distance moved that is discussed under the skill itself. Also, did you know that, technically, an anubite warrior would be able to jump straight up and get the jump attack bonus? |
| Plastic Sun04-07-05, 09:01 PM | yeah yeah, lay off dude, it's true the class is unbalanced, but there is potential there, if you re work it abit, it would get much better... |

The Anubite Warrior must make a Jump check opposed by the Reflex save, and an attack roll. I contacted those at the Department of Redundancy Department, and making two checks against an AC is quite...redundant. Maybe an opposing Tumble check? I shall make it so. |
| -Defiler of Souls-04-24-05, 01:41 PM | if you want 10d6 leap attack damage leap attack shouldn't allow full attack(this steps on the rogues feet alot as this class has not only a superiror version of sneak attack but 2 high saves and full BaB) leap is way too pwoerful for a 1st level ability, make it +1/level to jump skill also giving weapoin specialization, imp specializationd , and imp focus is REALLY stealing the fighter's thunder all and all i'd say riht now the class is pretty overpowered(especially leap attack) |
| Manyfist04-24-05, 01:56 PM | Hmm.... It seems a bit overpowered. My advise is to play it out, if it proves to be dominant on the Battle Ground, lower it a bit. I personally don't see what's the problem, it's just a beefed up Monk, which is needed. :D |

| Vilo04-24-05, 05:54 PM | Guh. I hate it when real world things are brought into D&D. Anubis is in no way evil, the non-good restriction makes no sense. The leaping stuff also makes no sense. It's an interesting class...and it works, it just bothers me as it's not grounded in reality at all, though that is what it is based on. |

If you had Sin on your heart all your life he would feed you to the monster, I would say he's NE. NE is that he only out for him self, he was told to do a job by his father Set. |

It was not supposed to be realistic. Age of Mythology. Anubites. I took out all of the realism. Secondly, all Anubites worship Anubis. An evil deity. Who is evil. God of death. |
| Dremik-the-Taupe07-23-05, 09:48 PM | On a historical note, Anubis (actually named Anpu) is only Evil in the show Stargate. In actual Egyptian polytheist beliefs he was thought to pretect the souls of the dead until their judgement (sort of a guardian angel if you want a Christian equivalent.) In a futile effort to increase accuracy, here is some less known information: Apep was a demonic serpent deity thought to try to detroy the sun. He was associated with darkness and burning and is more along the lines of a traditional Satan type. Also Sutekh (Set/Seth) was a storm deity of chaos and evil depicted in several ways including as a Hippo (more dangerous than crocodiles and faster than olympic sprinters, believe it or not). I just thought I should include this to give more enlightened inspiration in case anyone cared. |
| ClementWillowbreaker07-23-05, 10:09 PM | Not to mention being the Lord of the Cemetery who guaranteed eternal life to all good-hearted people by teaching the process of mummification. No body= no life after death. Seriously, Anubis is Lawful Neutral. As for the Set-being-his-father-thing, Set has this unfortunate pattern of having bad relationships with his family...with the whole wife-cheating-on-him-with-Osiris-leading-to-the-bloody-murder-of-him. So yeah, I wouldn't hold it against Anubis... |
| Mage_King09-02-05, 04:11 PM | He's the God of Mummification and Judgement, how was he good? If you had Sin on your heart all your life he would feed you to the monster. He is the conductor of souls but that includes watching over over mummification and guarding necropolis and judging the heart which is the feeding to the monster thing |
| Thievingrouge09-02-05, 04:36 PM | I like the class I just have to point out something: the first level is too good. There is almost nothing to lose by dipping into first level. |
| kodore10-01-05, 10:19 AM | you know i think the jump skill is an excelent idea and should not be dissed like this. with a jump like this an anubite could reach easily 30 - 50ft in the air. as you can see we have already run into our first problem. how can a creature leap 50ft in the air, come back down and hit the ground, without taking damage, and still be stable enough to deal out an extra 10d6 dmg let alone make a normal attack? |
