I wanted to make it either like a Rogue-type and then like a combo Rogue/Caster-type that focuses on Poison and Snake related spells for a Prestige Class... any advice on the Base class once I have that I should be able to mold a PrC out of it...

It depends on large part on what kind of aspect of a snake you want to focus on. Some snakes are great at swimming, some have particularly lethal poison, some can outgrapple just about anything. Really, everyone expects poison from snake related classes...don't you think it'd be more interesting to go outside the norm? A grapple related sneak attacking rogue'ish type would be pretty interesting, in my opinion.

That help at all? Get the 'ole creative juices flowing? ;)

Actually I favor Traditional Serpent Flavored types but that Grapple... like a Boa type snake whould be awsome thanks for the thought-spark!

Hey no worries at all! I'm a fellow snake enthusiast myself, been trying to build a traditional naga race in my offtime (half human, half snake; centaur-like creature, 'cept snake).

Further thoughts on your class made me think of a class I made a while ago that was never actually constructed. I made a little PrC I called the Slivers of S'rrakis. They used an exotic weapon (needles) to deliver precision damage and specific poisons, obviously. I tied them to a Neutral Good serpent deity, and made them something of a shadowy guild of assassins whose primary focus was to destroy those who would destroy the fragile ecology of the desert in which they lived.

The morale of this story is, I might suggest trying unusual alignment restrictions or organizations to make the class more interesting. Everyone seems to think snakes are evil because of their poison, but I can't agree with that. I find them to be very interesting creatures and actually rather enjoy the feel of their scales on my skin, it's quite pleasant. Okay, so I'm rambling now. Pft. Anyway, best of luck!

I think one of the oriental adventures book has a naga race with little or no LA.

I also think there was a half snake template near a multi armed and multi eyed template
