| Tee-drake12-29-04, 01:35 PM | Hello I was thinkin' about being a class that uses a bow. I have been lokin' here but i can't really find a class, exept ranger, that really uses a bow. :( Aren't there any base class exept for a ranger? There must be. ;) If you know any class that really is an archer please send some. |
| Thanatos0212-29-04, 01:46 PM | Almost all classes can use a bow, but only the Ranger was developed was an emphasis on archery. Fighters get a lot of bonus feats, and archery feats are fighter bonus feats - so, if you were so inclined, you could have a decent Fighter-archer. Rogues get Sneak Attack, and though archery is generally considered something one does from afar, the Rogues ability to sneak, move silently, and whatever are good mobility abilities for a lightly-armored archer to have. Plus, 30ft Sneak Attack with a bow is good. Clerics, I've heard, are some of the best archers out there. I think there may be an archery domain somewhere. But this is an option. Multi-classing is common. Personally, I'd be a Fighter or Ranger/Rogue for a while and then move into a PrC where there are builds designed for specialized concepts and different kinds of archers. |
| Thorak12-29-04, 01:49 PM | Core class? Fighter. Ranger. Bard. Rogue. Barbarian. All either tend to or can easily be built to use bows, albeit in different ways. The Fighter has all the trick shots, the Ranger's the decent scout-archer, the Bard's got magical support, the Rogue's sneak-attacking from 30 feet away (point blank shot stacks nicely), the Barbarian is taking advantage of hugely-strong bows he can only pull properly when Enraged, etc, etc. Anything more complicated, look to a PrC. There's plenty of archer-capable ones, like Order of the Bow Initiate, Arcane Archer, etc. |
| Thanatos0212-29-04, 01:53 PM | Thanks for bringing up Bard and Barbarian - both can be desgined to be good archers, but I forgot to mention 'em. |
| Tee-drake12-29-04, 02:00 PM | I know that most common classes can develope to be an archer but i was thinking about a specialist archer, someone who really gets some good archer and bow stuff. A fighter is the best cos' i get so many feats and very very easy can get so much. I have Complete Warrior and have been a Order of the bow initiate. But they are only good if you have sneak attack. Any archer-like press class could also be a good thing. Post If you have some homemade or something else that can be used. |
| q'afuu12-29-04, 02:17 PM | Post If you have some homemade or something else that can be used. If homebrew works for you, you could just do a search (http://boards1.wizards.com/search.php?searchid=181166). Took me less than 3 seconds to get done, including typing in 'archer'. ;) |
| Blakk_Magemaster12-29-04, 02:18 PM | In reality you're better off sticking with the Bard, Ranger, Fighter, Rogue or Barbarian. PrCing later can help if you want to PrC. But when you start getting into homemade core class stuff for an archer you really get screwed. When you make a homemade archer class that's all that they can do and they get left behind by everyone. With these already made classes you can become as good an archer as a homemade one unless you start making archer only feats. And if you do that, you might as well be a fighter and make the feats generic. My best suggestion is either a ranger/rogue or a fighter. |
| Tee-drake12-29-04, 02:29 PM | Homebrew i meaned was just to see if you had some archer classes. I can see for myself if the class is not my type. Else i have to look again mysef. Sorry for disturbing you then. |
| q'afuu12-29-04, 02:37 PM | It's not that you're disturbing us (or just me, I'm not speaking for anyone else), it's that it's extremely easy to find out if anyone has already posted archer classes. I found 39 threads, I'm sure there must be something useful in there. And if there isn't, you could at least point out why those don't really satisfy your needs. It always helps if people see you've taken a bit of trouble yourself first and it helps even more if you can be specific in your request. |

| thndraven12-30-04, 02:50 AM | actually Fighter/Rogue with a 2/1 ratio would make the best combo for an Archer. ;) |
