| Lafarallin08-07-06, 02:47 PM | Are there any classes or even prestige classes that grant base spells out of arcane and divine? I'm not talking about +1 to existing levels either. Just a base class with divine and arcane spell options..... |
| Pyke_Moonshadow08-07-06, 02:52 PM | Nope, they count as one or the other for spellcasting purposes. I have not seen a divine/arcane caster class. |
| shadow_kras08-07-06, 03:16 PM | isnt mystic theurge a arcane & divine spellcaster? Same goes for the true necromancer (revisioned in libris mortis). |
| Lafarallin08-07-06, 03:18 PM | Thanks for the response. I was thinking about playing an arcane/divine mix and was wondering if there were any core classes out there that fit the mold. |
| Pyke_Moonshadow08-07-06, 03:18 PM | No, they get a +1 to existing spellcaster class levels. I have no clue about the True Necromancer. |
| goawayugh08-07-06, 03:18 PM | those are "+1 to existing arcane/divine caster level", thats not what OP wants. |
| DM Zoc08-07-06, 03:37 PM | The answer you are looking for would have been the bard, if they had decided to give it two separate casting abilities rather than just making the otherwise wholly "divine" spells into arcane equivalents. As such, you should not be able to find what you are seeking until they change their mind on how things "should be." |
| pita08-07-06, 03:45 PM | The adept in the DMG has both, but it's a weak class. I've seen something similiar but stronger in the forums about a year ago. |
| DM Zoc08-07-06, 04:10 PM | The adept in the DMG has both, but it's a weak class. I've seen something similiar but stronger in the forums about a year ago. Actually, the adept is purely a divine caster. |
| Lafarallin08-07-06, 04:23 PM | Yeah just checked Adept myself. I'll check out the True Necromancer but I'm guessing that is going to be a prestige class. |
| shadow_kras08-07-06, 04:27 PM | the true necromancer have +1 arcane spellcasting/ +1 divine spellcasting. I understand that as he get lvs in both spellcasters table when get a lv, same for the mystic theurge. He has weak hit dice, weak BAB, weak saves and weak skill points, you telling me that class is worth less than a base class or what? Btw, the true necromancer firstly came in tome&blood for 3.0, he had both spellcasters lv advancement, but had weak abilities besides the spellcasting for divine AND arcane. And the requeriments were huge, 5 lvs in cleric and mage basically (lv10 character, 11 if made using a sorcerer). In libris mortis the true necromancer, the pale master and the master of shrouds got revised to 3.5 and got way better than they were back in 3.0. The pale master loses only 1 spellcaster lv now, before he lost 5 in his 10 class lvs... |
| fearthedwarves08-07-06, 05:14 PM | Well if you don’t mind a homebrew base class then you definitely need to look up Aramek's Blue Mage (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=137596). It is without a doubt one of the best-balanced classes I have ever seen. You can learn divine and arcane spells, although they are always cast as arcane spells. |
| CzarGarrett08-08-06, 08:02 AM | I believe the Archivist uses both spell lists in their entirety. To a minor degree, Bards have a few divine spells cast as arcane. |
| Milo HoBo08-08-06, 08:09 AM | Shujenja has quite a few 'arcane' spells that are cast as divine spells. Really neat class, but I haven't played or studied it. |
| Morka08-08-06, 09:51 AM | Going gestalt, perhaps? Or perhaps the Chameleon (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20041210b&page=1). It allows you to cast either divine or arcane spells, but not in the same time. At least, not before level 7! I wonder why you want a class with base spellcasting both arcane & divine, but not a class with +1 level in each? |
| HaikenEdge08-08-06, 10:12 AM | If I remember right, the Spellcaster from Unearthed Arcana can be either a divine or arcane spellcasting class; however, you get access to spells on both lists. |
| forwardxmotion08-08-06, 01:26 PM | maybe you aren't looking for prestige classes, but if you are check out mystic theurge and arcane hierophant (races of the wild). Theurge would be great if you plan on playing a cleric or dread necromancer type, but arcane hierophant is a phenomenal class for druids... you could wildshape and spell cast both divine and arcane spells (assuming you take natural spell as a feat) and the prestige class even lets you channel spells through animals and plants. just a thought... |
| DM Zoc08-08-06, 01:31 PM | If I may hazard a guess, it sounds to me as though the original poster wants a single class that grants both casting abilities for the purpose of pursuing an otherwise weak prestige class, such as the geomancer. |
| Pyke_Moonshadow08-08-06, 01:45 PM | I think what the OP wants is a class that counts as both an arcane caster and a divine caster. Several classes can pull spells from various lists but they cast them only one way. The archivist I believe is a divine caster, the bard - arcane, the shugenja - divine, adept - divine. |
| Rerednaw08-08-06, 03:15 PM | If I may hazard a guess, it sounds to me as though the original poster wants a single class that grants both casting abilities for the purpose of pursuing an otherwise weak prestige class, such as the geomancer. That was my line of reasoning as well...the issue is then combining this base class with a not-so weak prestige class. *sniff* Cheese? :D |
| Orchomenos08-08-06, 04:28 PM | On a side note, a Wizard 5/Ur Priest 1 would cast spells as a 5th level wizard and 3rd level cleric, still better than Wizard 3/Cleric 3. Note: this build doesn't work, it's just for the sake of the caster levels. |
| Dheran08-09-06, 02:50 AM | There's always straight cleric. Careful choice of domains will add a small number of otherwise arcane spells to their spell lists. Casting domain spells is very restricted without feats or prestige classes, though. |
| JulesCARV08-09-06, 03:09 AM | Chameleon (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20041210b&page=1), but the Aptitude Focus can't be used to meet feat or prestige class prerequisites if that's what you wanted. |
| stsword08-09-06, 03:42 AM | There's the Savant from Dragon Compendium by Paizo, which isn't particularly impressive spellcasting wise though. I like the Sha'ir better from the same book, it can cast all sorcerer/wizard spells as well as some domain spells as well. The idea of a sha'ir/enlightened fist/sacred fist has occured to me in idle thought. :) Otherwise the closest thing I can find is the Rainbow servant from complete divine, which requires arcane casting but at tenth level gives full access to the complete cleric list of spells. That option might be two high level for you though, since you need to be able to cast 3rd level spells to qualify for it in the first place. |
