| /\/\ercury04-04-05, 05:36 PM | Hi there, I am searching for a class with a full base attack which is also good without armor and doesn't use Rage. The thing is, it should become a Falchion Fighter and it kind of sucks if you fight with a Falchion stuffed inside a Fullplate (the PC in the Fullplate, not the Falchion ;) ). So a Duelist style in Defensive Fighting and additional Armor class or a balanced Damage Reduction would be nice. |
| Ancient Wyrm04-04-05, 06:02 PM | Your best choice is probably to convince the DM to allow swashbuckler and duelist abilities to apply to the falchion. Second-best choice is dervish. But what's wrong with full plate? |
| /\/\ercury04-04-05, 06:18 PM | Good point. Switching Rapier to a 2Handed Weapon! BTW, is there a nice PrC with DR ability (beside the HoM) = But what's wrong with full plate? That's just a question of style :) Sometimes players just want to play something cool :coolcthul |
| Belldandy04-04-05, 08:07 PM | Templar gets it doesn´t it? As I believe Soldier of the light (or that might just be fast healing! Woe!) Off the top of my head... |
| PhaedrusXY04-04-05, 08:30 PM | Dwarven Defender gets DR. An armor-less DD is kind of a strange beast I think, though. :D It's not a class, but there is also the Mineral Warrior template from the Underdark book. It gets DR 9/Adamantine and some other great things for only a +1 Level Adjustment. |
| Belldandy04-04-05, 08:40 PM | mineral warrior is a silly silly template. Adamantine armour of course for an added DR 1/-,2/-, or 3/- hehehehe |
| Junkyard Dog04-04-05, 08:45 PM | I think I have an answer for you, though it's a race, not a class. Eberron and MM3 have a race called the shifter, if you're not already familiar with it. By 6th level, it can take take the Shifter Defense racial feat, which grants it DR 2/silver. By 12th level, it can take Greater Shifter Defense, granting it DR 4/silver. If you take the weretouched master PrC, you can qualify for the second by the time you're 9th level (character level). With a shifter and the use of racial feats, you could gain DR and select any fighter-type class or multi-class you want. Just keep in mind that you'll have to select other shifter racial feats first in order to qualify. Still, the shifter feats rock, in my opinion. As a matter of fact, this could work very well with the combination you're pondering: a lightly-armored, falchion-wielding fighter-type. Take levels of fighter and choose to become a beasthide shifter, which gives you +2 Con and +2 natural armor while shifting. You could take the Beasthide Elite shifter feat at 1st level, which boosts the natural armor bonus to +4. It would also count as a prerequisite feat toward getting the ones which give you DR. And +4 natural armor would be great for a guy who's lightly armored. Then you can use your fighter bonus feats for falchion-related stuff. I was just working out all this last night for a shifter monk I'm thinking of playing. |
| Borris04-04-05, 09:02 PM | Full base attack bonus, damage reduction, and no rage ability? Well, I can see Dwarven Defender, Dragonslayer, Pious Templar, Hammer of Moradin, Daidoji Bodyguard... I think that's it. |
| Manyfist04-04-05, 09:03 PM | Warforged Adamantine Body gives DR 2/-, Warlock Gives out Dr x/Cold Iron(rare to have). Dwarven Defender also has it, I think Warforged Juggernaught also has DR. Beserkers(Barbs.) are kick ass, especailly in alt. rules, when Frezy, Rage, Whirling Madness(I think this is it)...etc. |
| XrP-Leon04-04-05, 09:42 PM | What book is the Templar in? |
| Junkyard Dog04-05-05, 07:58 AM | What book is the Templar in? The Templar appears in Complete Divine under the name Pious Templar. |
| CowGoMoo04-05-05, 08:25 AM | The Pious Templar: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20040418a&page=2 A little unbalanced, but no more so than half the other splatbook PrCs. The Green Star Adept is even worse: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20041105a You have to waste a level to qualify for arcane spells, and it only gives you 3/4 BAB progression...but the +6 Str alone almost makes up for that. |

How 'bout a dervish? :D Maybe with some levels as a Thief Acrobat, if you want additional AC when fighting defensively? And, I'd add, even 3-5 levels as a scout, for uncanny dodge and some bonuses to damage and AC while dancing, maybe even evasion, that you could use to qualify for TA. Not optimal, but I guess conceptually it should fit... Scout and Thief Acrobat are in Complete Adventurer, the Dervish is in Complete Warrior. |
| Lina_Inverse04-05-05, 10:19 AM | style doesnt beat function. if you dont want armor.and want to run into the melee.you can be less effective,or you can be a rogue with TWF. |
