| Gazalem09-10-07, 06:19 PM | Does anyone have an idea for a class based of the Immortals (either historically or based of the movie 300)? I thought of using concentration as a key skill but i would really like some input. |
| Xiuhcoatl09-10-07, 06:22 PM | Fighter or Barbarian sounds like a start. They were really just shield + spear specialists, probably level 15ish when the average level was 5 or less. |
| Gazalem09-10-07, 06:43 PM | The thing with the immortals were that they made as little noise as possible while fighting (ie. they never spoke in battle and generally tried not to grunt or make any other loud noises that their enemy could hear) so i figured that they would dip a little into intimidation i also figured they should be skilled in all weapons armor and shields (Tower shields?) i had thought that using concentration would be appropriate like they would have to make a concentration check every time they took damage to ignore the wound (as in making no sign that they have the wound they would still take damage) and i figured they could intimidate their foes (that was the point of the real immortals never show your face to your enemy and never let them hear your voice). |

By D&D standards average level is 1 and above average is 4(4th lvl NPCs are your above average joe, captains generals etc.) Why throw around such high numbers? Historically mainly mythical and very exaggerated characters would even be even close to 11th level. With such a force(around 10,000) 15th level NPCs would have taken over the world. Assuming immortals were the elite of the elite we could give them a rough level of about 4-8 in warrior NPC class. Depending on the individual their experience would range with the higher ranking guys being at the top at 8th level. That is being very generous(which D&D often is), realistically we're looking at a group of 2nd-4th level guys(alot of times reality doesn't work out in D&D so its safe to say 4-8 would be fairly accurate in game). ' There would of course be exceptions for exceptional individuals. Just like there is a samurai class for exceptional NPC/PC samurai. Your more generic individuals will fall under one of the NPC classes. Sorry for going so off topic. Look at ToB it has concentration based maneuvers and such, might be what you're looking for(in general it could be what you're looking for). What exactly are you looking for in immortals? Are they a group in your campaign? Do they serve the same function as they did historically? Are there any variation you'd like to add to them? The thing with the immortals were that they made as little noise as possible while fighting (ie. they never spoke in battle and generally tried not to grunt or make any other loud noises that their enemy could hear) so i figured that they would dip a little into intimidation i also figured they should be skilled in all weapons armor and shields (Tower shields?) i had thought that using concentration would be appropriate like they would have to make a concentration check every time they took damage to ignore the wound (as in making no sign that they have the wound they would still take damage) and i figured they could intimidate their foes (that was the point of the real immortals never show your face to your enemy and never let them hear your voice). They normally used spears/shields/bows according to wiki. I think you're looking for bluff not concentration. Intimidate is intimidate. |
| Gazalem09-10-07, 06:45 PM | I know that this would seem best for a purely military campaign but i just saw 300 and i really feel giddy |
| Gazalem09-10-07, 06:47 PM | I just want a basic adventuring class based off of em i have always liked Immortals Historically and seeing the movie just set me off |
| Gazalem09-10-07, 06:48 PM | sorry if this sounds stupid but whats ToB? |
| IdleAltruism09-10-07, 06:50 PM | sorry if this sounds stupid but whats ToB? Tome of Battle. |
| Gazalem09-10-07, 06:51 PM | thanks |
| Gazalem09-10-07, 08:21 PM | Anyone got anything else? I've heard of people already making the the class but I've searched the internet and have nothing |

The Persian force would no doubtedly be 1st to 5th level. |
