| skrap1r0n12-22-03, 03:13 PM | Looking for information on Hexblade. anyone know if any info is on the web about them? Yes I have done a google search, but all results turned up the book, The Complete Warrior. I don't mind buying the book, but I want to see if Hexblade will meet my needs before I go get it. |

I'm playing one now and it's my fav' class yet. An alignment restriction of any non-good. BAB of a fighter. Good Will, bad Ref and Fort. Spells like a sorc starting at 4th (they have their own spell list so you'll have to get the book for that part). Soem nifty SU abilities like hex curse (failed will and oponent is -2 on EVERYTHING for an hour, and improves with levelling), CHA bonus vs spells and later 20% miss on attacks against them (before everyone starts flaming me I know it's all a lot more detailed than this, I'm just giving the abridged version). Also, no Sp% fail in light armor. Pretty fun overall, especially some of the character descriptive traits... tries not to associate with pally's, is at best neutral... stuff like that. |
| skrap1r0n12-22-03, 03:26 PM | just some info, I understand the CoC thing. Essentially, we are entering an Evil campaign. I want to roll a fighter type that will be a dragon Disciple as soon as possible (lvl 5 I think) Anyway, I was thinking of 3 levels of fighter and one level of sorcerer, then Taking the DD PgC. Someone told me I may want to consider Starting as a hexblade in order to get the Spontaneous Arcane spell casting ability and Knowledge (Arcana) that will be reqiured for Dragon Disciple. |
| Caelum12-22-03, 03:37 PM | An evil campain? I'd say he was on the money. I just played a bard going to dragon desciple and almost cried when I read the hexblade. It seems the perfect fit for a DD. DDs really focus more on fighting than spell casting and that fits perfect for the hexblade. Since the hex is all about spontaneous casting he goes well with the DD there, and the nifty bonuses the DD adds to stats are exactly where you'd want them to go for the hexblade; DDs get +2 to CHA and that'll probably be your prime stat since it helps your saves (through arcane resistance) and that's what adds to you spell DC (and hex DC). It's a great combo to tell the truth, the hexblade covers the areas that a sorc/fighter or bard lack (about the only other combo's really for going into DD). Do a Black Dragon DD by the way, they're the perfect flavor for hexblades, IMO. |
| skrap1r0n12-22-03, 04:18 PM | Yep, Black Dragon is the way I am going. This char was actually inspired by the Samurai that come with the mini's. Each one seems to be a dragon disciple for the corrosponsing dragon. I have 2 bronze samurai's and a Red Samurai. Sounded like a FUN class to play. More than likely, I will roll a half elf, with the elf half being Drow. He would be the ultimate outcast, and since it's an underdark adventure, it wouldn't be TOO cliche... |
| Caelum12-22-03, 04:31 PM | LOL!!! I'm gonna have to show this to my DM. I really wanted to play a half-drow hexblade but he wouldn't allow it. Nice to know someone gets to play my dream character. The nice thing about hexblade to Dragon Disciple is the originality... it can't be too cliche, hexblades are brand spankin' new. If possible get a weapon of spell storing. Hexblades can't cast a ton of spells per day so this helps. A fun combo is Phantom Threat (I think that's what its called) which makes your opponent think he's flanked even if it's only 1to1. <stab> OK make your will save... Add to that casting Nystrul's Aura to hide any magical properties on the weapon and really surprise 'em. The hex curse is a SU free action, so you can pop that right before your attack and try to knock down their saves even more. It also ignores spell resistance since it's SU... not bad. |
| skrap1r0n12-22-03, 05:05 PM | well anything Drow seems cliche after The Dark Elf Trilogy came out. Actually, I am hoping he will allow it. I don't want any of the Drow abilities, just the race. I went ahead and bought the book over lunch. The more I look at it, the more I like the Hexblade to Dragon Disciple class. He is giving us 12 levels, so I think I'll go HB 5/DD 7. |
