Any Paladin/ Blackguards out there? [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-20-07, 03:55 PM I only bring this up because I played through nwn2 this way recently with a paladin/ Blackguard. It was alittle easier with nwn2 because paladins do not become fallen in it. But I was able to stack up all the abilities such that I had Divine grace and dark blessing stacking up which led to the crazy 40+ saves by lvl 20. Of course in a normal dnd campaign, one would have to go paladin for however many lvls they wanted, do some evil **** and then take their blackguard lvls and then return to Lawful good again and take atonement to regain their paladin abilities. Anyone ever do this? Sounds like a fun idea.

02-20-07, 04:05 PM I like the combo, myself. But that sounds like a programming error, although I've not had the chance to play NWN2 yet. But if you were to become good again, you would lose your Blackguard abilities, because you no longer meet the "Any Evil" prerequisite. But, if you mean just in NWN2, heck, I'd love to give it a shot.

Aribeth de Tylmarande would be the best example of a legitimate case. Of course, this means losing Blackguard abilities.

How you describe would simply not be allowed - atonement is based on the principle that you regret the harm that you have done. Doing evil to gain power and then thinking to just "regain" Paladin abilities would be breaking that principle. It is only fair to give up those powers gained through evil.

I'll be honest, the doing evil and then returning to good thing is just the requirements. How it happens is character development. One could keep using their blackguard powers for good except probably the smite good ability. I don't see much capability to use that one for good.

Where can I find the rules explaining how when one no longer meets the prerequisites for a prc they lose the abilities of that prc. I heard that one before but I don't know where to look for it. I saw no ex-blackguard section at the end of the prestige class description.
