| ArochanoX08-10-07, 04:23 PM | There are always new and new classes with "distinctly" different flavor and options. Why not to make a class that is so versatile that it can fit to any role and any flavor without being an overly multiclassed monstrosity. The idea is following: * You don't have to make your class from level 1 to level 20 beforehand. You can at each level cherrypick abilities you like at the moment. * One should have a limited ability to change your previous choises to make the class playable at all times. * At first all the basic abilities will be listed (skills, weapon and armor proficiencies, bonus feats, spells, HD, BAB, saves, sneak attack). * Later all core abilities (rage, flurry, etc etc). * Finally all non-core abilities whether orginated in prc:s or not. * Multiclassing or taking prestige classes is no longer needed. * Finally incorporate new abilities that fit the existing abilities powerwise and pointwise. My idea: At first level a character gets a set number of creation points, feature points or whatever points and he uses them to select the HD, armor proficiencies and class skills. Those remain unchanged (atleast for now). Then he gains slowly increasing number of points every level that he uses on class abilities (we want level 20 abilities be stronger than level 1 abilities right? :D). Just experimentations: HD: d4 - 4 points (at first level, later 0 points) d6 - 6 points (at first level, later 1 points) d8 - 8 points (at first level, later 2 points) d10 - 10 points (at first level, later 3 points) d12 - 12 points (at first level, later 4 points) Class Skills: Profession and Craft are always class skills. For every 2 class skills - 1 point (Knowledge skills are considered ½ class skills) Weapon Proficiencies: Everyone is always proficient with simple weapons. All martial weapons - 2 points One exotic weapon - 1 point Armor Proficiencies: Light Armors - 1 point Medium Armors (and lighter) - 2 points Heavy Armors (and lighter) - 4 points Light Shields - 1 point (0 points, if proficient with heavy armors) Heavy Shields (and lighter) - 2 points (1 point, if proficient with heavy armors) Tower Shield - 1 point (must be proficient with heavy shields too) Level-based abilities: +1 BAB - 2 points +1 Save - 1 point 2 skill points - 1 point Fighter Bonus Feat - 5 points +1d6 Sneak Attack - 5 points In this example, a standardish Fighter would have 32 points at level 1. At level 2 he needs 12 points (total 44 points used) At level 3 he needs 8 points (total 52 points used) At level 4 he needs 12 points (total 64 points used) At level 5 he needs 6 points (total 70 points used) At level 6 he needs 14 points (total 84 points used) At level 7 he needs 6 points (total 90 points used) At level 8 he needs 12 points (total 102 points used) At level 9 he needs 8 points (total 110 points used) At level 10 he needs 12 points (total 122 points used) Average: 9 points per level after the first. If Fighter here gained 35 points at level 1, he would have total of 12 points at level 2. Though even then he doesn't get enough points to manage the 4th level bonus feat, but let's say this needs still some fixing. This is the first tryout! I think that BAB's and Save's cost should increase the higher score you have. (Not to mention the normal limit of max BAB = HD.) What do you think? Workable? Check this thread for more on the similar subject, but in which you'll have to create the whole class at once. http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=282481 |

The math would really need to be worked out so it will be balanced (I haven't really checked). Maybe some of the PrC abilities that you can't get through feats should cost more points. Has great potential, but needs a LOT of time investment. |
| LoneFlame08-10-07, 04:53 PM | ArochanoX, somehow, I knew this day would come. Actually playing a point-based class generation system sucks. Period. Besides, unless you're a caster, multi-classing isn't bad. I notice your build doesn't actually include spell-casting, so there goes the only way I can see justifying it. |
| ArochanoX08-11-07, 02:21 PM | Update! More keenly calculated point scores for different abilities. Spellcasting is now included! BAB BAB Cost 1 1 2 1 3 1 4 1 5 1 6 2 7 2 8 2 9 2 10 2 11 3 12 3 13 4 14 5 15 5 16 6 17 7 18 8 19 9 20 10 extreme 21 12 22 14 23 16 24 18 25 20 SAVES Save Cost 1 1 2 1 3 1 4 1 5 1 6 1 (if you have more than 2 saves that have save of 6 or higher, all further save increases cost +1 point) 7 2 8 3 9 3 10 4 11 4 12 5 extreme 13 7 14 9 15 11 16 13 17 15 18 17 HIT DIE HD - Cost d4 - 0 points d6 - 1 points d8 - 2 points d10 - 3 points d12 - 4 points extreme 2d6 - 6 points 2d8 - 8 points 2d10 - 10 points 2d12 - 12 points SKILLS Craft and Profession are always class skills. 2 Class skills: 1 point 4 Knowledge skills: 1 point (These can be combined) For the first 6 class skills; Spot, Listen, Search, Hide, Move Silently, Tumble, Truespeak nor Use Magic Device skills can be be picked. After the 6 first class skills, one of the aforementioned skills can be picked for every point used for skills. You still pick 2 skills for the cost of 1 point. SKILL POINTS: 2 skill points cost 1 point 4 skill points cost 2 points 6 skill points cost 3 points 8 skill points cost 4 points 10 skill points cost 6 points 12 skill points cost 8 points FEATS: # Cost 1 0 2 1 3 2 4 3 5 4 6 5 7 7 8 8 9 9 10 10 11 11 12 12 13 13 14 13 15 14 16 14 17 15 18 15 19 16 20 16 ARCANE SPELLS Wizard casting: 1 spell slot costs 1,333 x spell level. (normal rounding rules!) lvl 1 slot: 1 point (Prerequirement: Caster Level 1) lvl 2 slot: 3 points (Prerequirement: Caster Level 3) lvl 3 slot: 4 points (Prerequirement: Caster Level 5) lvl 4 slot: 5 points (Prerequirement: Caster Level 7) lvl 5 slot: 7 points (Prerequirement: Caster Level 9) lvl 6 slot: 8 points (Prerequirement: Caster Level 11) lvl 7 slot: 9 points (Prerequirement: Caster Level 13) lvl 8 slot: 11 points (Prerequirement: Caster Level 15) lvl 9 slot: 12 points (Prerequirement: Caster Level 17) CASTER LEVEL A Character gains caster level from the point he gains his first spell at the rate of ½ Character level. +½ CL (to the maximum of Character level) cost 1 point. +½ CL (to the maximum of 1½ Character levels) cost 2 points. +½ CL (to the maximum of 2 Character levels) cost 3 points. +½ CL (to the maximum of 2½ Character levels) cost 4 points. No time to create builds this time. A character should get 10+ ½ Character Level points per level. About 20 points at level 1. |
| Leress08-11-07, 02:36 PM | *points to BESM d20* you probably want this, it has a similar creation system. |
| zorgling2508-11-07, 02:48 PM | Or this (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/genericClasses.htm). |
| ArochanoX08-11-07, 07:32 PM | Thanks Zorgling, but I already know about the generic classes presented in the UA. But the BESM is out of my proficience. |
