| Mentalmegabody07-24-06, 03:51 AM | I do... well uhhh... some of them. I have the whole collection on .pdf. Quintessential Elf is by far the most useful I've read so far, whereas some of them (mainly quintessential Kobold) are downright useless. Okay... that depends. Quintessential Dwarf and Elf are overall good books to buy. Moongoose Publishing Slayer's Guide -series is a waste of money; how often do you get to kill lots of derro or kraken? There are three interesting books from this series: - The Slayer's Guide To Female Gamers - The Slayer's Guide To Game Masters - The Slayer's Guide To Rules Lawyers And last, but not least... the Encyclopedia Arcane. This is a very nice collection to have overall. It provides insights and new ways to use the arcane powers in D&D. Here's my three favourites: - Encyclopaedia Arcane - Crossbreeding - Flesh And Blood - Encyclopaedia Arcane - Familiars - Crouching Monkey, Hidden Toad - Encyclopaedia Arcane - Chronomancy - The Power Of Time The downside is that they are mostly for 3rd Edition rules, but they are relatively easy to convert to 3.5. Be sure to discuss the material with your DM before playing and let him/her study them thoroughly. Oh and... for those adult gamers who want to spice the game a bit, here's three books for ya. (I find the thought... disturbing, but I thought I should post it; remember... the books are only for adults) - Encyclopaedia Arcane - Nymphology - Blue Magic - The Quintessential Temptress - Book Of Erotic Fantasy ... there you go :tiphat: Btw. Those books actually had some pretty powerful spells and monsters. I'm not even getting on the classes, pictures or items, find out yourself :P Oh and there was a greater nymph in BoEF - wonder what that would be like... OOKAY I'm gonna stop right now, thank you! |
| Dolo07-24-06, 04:14 AM | I got to use the Quintessential Monk book and after using 2 PrC's from it I learned one thing: No fighter or fighter type should EVER get their normal attacks as touch attacks. Being able to go off at +16 and hitting with every attack when you tell the DM " All my attacks are touch attacks.", the first time that happened, he was in shock since he had built this Evil cleric to deal with the sniper, but I came along and dropped her in one round. Some of those books can be ridicoulsly powerful and combo too easiliy or in unexpected ways. Read over whatever book you want to bring in and talk to your DM , or if you are a DM check it over with a fine toothcomb and see what would fit in. I think half of the books are only decent or weak and the rest can be killers/overpowered. Go to a gaming shop and read them over to get your own opinon about them, and see what could fit in with your style and NOT break the game. Only you can prevent Campaign fires. also gaming is half the battle Yo Joe! |

| Mentalmegabody07-24-06, 04:33 AM | I completely agree with the last post. I was just looking at Quintessential Elf, Elven Feats and found this: Eyes of the Hawk [General] Prerequisite: Spot skill. (ONLY!?) Benefit: The character multiplies any ranged weapon's range increment and spotting distance by 1.5. Can you see where I'm getting at? If this doesn't stack with Far Shot -feat, it is rendered completely useless, since this is better and has fewer requirements. If this stacks with Far Shot -feat, it means a lvl 10 Deepwood Sniper gets no penalty when firing a composite longbow from 500 ft. away and can, if he/she wants target enemies with a -20 penalty from a whopping 5,000 ft. away! What we did was to incorporate a part of the feat to Far Shot. (It might not be that realistic - but in D&D, who cares about realism, not WotC at least) We made it so that it also multiplies the spot distance, since it's always nice to see what you're hitting at. :D |
| belthazzar111307-24-06, 06:00 AM | Chaos magic. one of the greatest additions to the d20 game of all time. Makes an appearance in just about eery game i run and more of my characters have been chaos mages than any other class. they have a quintisental book because the first edition of it was so wildly popular. trust me, its great fun and alot of fun. its well balanced, and it is self correcting and self contained. you don't need anything special to stop a choas mage since they end up limiting themselves and beyond that they can be treated like a wizard for the purposes of defeating them. great fun, great innovation, definitly i recomend anyone taking a look if at all possible. |
